Hello,

I have separate AC and Heat (gas baseboard) units that I am trying to connect tot he same Google Nest Learning.

My heat wires are WHITE and RED.  The AC wires are BLUE, YELOOW, RED, and GREEN.

I can't seem to get it working.  How should the wires be intalled?

Thank you

Hello Donna34,

Thanks for reaching out—help's here! Connecting separate heating and cooling systems to a Nest Learning Thermostat can be a bit tricky, but let's try to troubleshoot this together. Here's a general guide to help you with the wiring:

For the heating system in the Nest Thermostat:

  • Connect the white wire to the W1 terminal.
  • Connect the red wire to the Rh or Rc terminal.

For the air conditioning system in the Nest Thermostat:

  • Connect the blue wire to the C terminal.
  • Connect the yellow wire to the Y1 terminal.
  • Connect the red wire to the Rh or Rc terminal (whichever wasn't used for heating).
  • Connect the green wire to the G terminal.

Make sure the Nest Thermostat is properly powered and configured to work with both heating and cooling systems. You may need to go through the setup process and select both heating and cooling options. If the issue persists, it might be helpful if you could share with us a photo of your existing thermostat and tell us the make and model of your HVAC system. Also, is this a dual-transformer or just a jumper wire for the red wire?

Let us know if you have more questions, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Mark
