setting up learning thermostat wifi question

Having trouble setting up a Nest Learning thermostat.  Do the thermostat and the phone used to set it up have to be on the same wifi, or can the thermostat and the phone be on different wifi service? (or wifi and cell)?

Not sure if this is the cause of the problem setting up, and also if I will need the wifi info for each location (multiple offices within a building, each with different wifi info).

Hello @lizootz1

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest Community about the set up process on your Nest Thermostat. I apologize for all the inconvenience. I'm here to help you with that.

To answer your question, for setting up the device, it is not necessary to connect both devices with the same WiFi network in this Nest Thermostat model. However, you’ll need to be able to touch your thermostat to add it to your account in the Nest app. This means that you won’t be able to add it remotely. After you’ve added your thermostat to your account, you’ll be able to use the Nest app on your phone, tablet, or computer to control your thermostat from anywhere.

You can share with me more details about the trouble you have when you try this process, and I will find a solution for you.

Feel free to keep us posting; I'm happy to assist you.

Best regards,

Douglas.
