Any news on deleting old devices from WiFi-list?

BeFs

Hi!

Are there any plans for implementing any possibility to delete devices from the WiFi-list in Google Home app?

I have 160 gray devices and about 120 of them are "Unknown".

Hi @BeFs and @taylor7 ,

Thanks for raising this issue with the inability to remove devices from the Google Home app list.

We (community product expert/volunteers) also raised this issue to the WiFi team. They know we would like to remove the unknown/unused devices from that list.

Hopefully they will implement that but in the meantime please share feedback in the Google Home app.

The unknown devices problem has been going on for well over a year now.  Follow along in the most recently recreated thread at: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Unnamed-Offline-devices-on-Nest-WiFi/m-p/160579  (following up on similar threads in previous iterations of these kinds of support fora).

You likely won't see a solution, regardless of what all the "Community Specialists" and "Platinum Product Experts" will keep telling you.

I want those unknown devices deleted just as much as you and I wish I had the power to fix it.  The best I can do as a community volunteer is to let the Community Specialists who work for Google know, suggest users send feedback and whenever I do meet with the Wifi team from Google -to stress that this is an issue for users and we really want that control back.  I have done all of the above so many times I've lost count.🙃

Much appreciated for your personal efforts; but the reality is still that those with the power to fix it simply seem to be ignoring these major issues persistently.  You should be careful taking on the role to be the/a public face for this; you're being used as an (unpaid!) facade.  Maybe Google should consider swapping one such paid "Community Specialist" for an extra paid software developer who would effectively go and fix major outstanding bugs & issues.  Paying customers would be much better served by that.

Agreed on all of that.

We are a user to user community without a direct conduit to the powers that be.

Not having that list of devices editable by me is maddening.

Hi, everyone.

As it has been mentioned here, right now there is no way to manually edit device lists, and I'm not aware of any current plans to bring the feature to the Home app. As always, I can pass your feedback along and I would invite you to submit feedback through the Home app as well. The feedback is reviewed by teams and it's good to make your voice heard on any features you would like to see added to the Home app or the WiFi products.

I can see the use case for being able to edit the lists, for sure. I'm sorry for the confusion the current setup might be causing. If you have any additional questions on this, just let me know.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Well, as has been mentioned numerous times here and in many other threads: I think for most people (me included) it's really not as much about a new feature to edit the device list as it is about fixing a major outstanding bug that adds bogus "unnamed device"s to that device list.  To make matters worse, it's specifically these bogus "unnamed device"s that persist in the list, and don't disappear after 30 days.

I understand from a range of threads here and on Reddit that the internal model for Google teams and employees is to be rewarded for new features to progress their internal Google career; and little to no credit is given for fixing major bugs in existing products and features.  I was sceptical when I read about that at first (as it seems extremely silly and literally promotes adding messy broken features, for the next guy to fix; who won't fix it of course), however, the customer experience here effectively backs this up.  Again, to be clear, we're talking here about major outstanding bugs that have persisted for several years, without a single hint at these being attempted to be resolved; and this for a paid product.

All that said, a simple feature to remove a device from that list; how hard can it be?  Just assign the ticket to someone already and buy them all their coffees for an afternoon.

Hey, SpottedQuoll.

I know it's frustrating. I don't know exactly how it's determined which features are implemented or which bugs are prioritized for cleanup against others. I can appreciate that this is something you want to see resolved, as do many others. As it is now, I don't have any info on a time frame for that. I wish I had better news for you in that regard and I hope to see it addressed at some point.

Thanks,

- Jeff

This also messes up dhcp-ip-reservations. The list is very bloated with lots of devices.
