There is NO advice on this forum that works for all of us who just want to reset our passwords and NO customer service to call or chat. Incredibly frustrating customer DIService!

Password reset on what, your Google account?

I don't work for Google.

Being that this is a forum for Google Nest Wifi, I would instead assume that user Dreams23 is asking how to reset the administrative password used by the router. Can you provide an answer for that?

To administer most home routers, the local user opens a browser , e.g. https://192.168.1.1, and logs in with default credentials (or some found on a sticker on the router), such as "admin" with a password of "admin". Obviously, this is terribly insecure but pretty standard practice, and explains why the Internet is full of bot traffic attempting these default credentials daily, everywhere, seeking new victims who left the factory defaults set.

So how does a Google Nest wifi owner... 1) access the admin screen of the device in a browser without the mobile app, and 2) alter the password used for this remote, administrative interface?

For my customized network (router's IP changed to 192.168.3.1 from the default 192.168.1.1), I found the router is actually accessible via a non SSL interface at http://192.168.3.1, not HTTPS. However, there are no login fields there, just an advertisement to download the Android app. 😕

I can only "hope" that this insecure web interface (HTTP) is only accessible to other internal hosts, i.e. whose IP is 192.168.3.x.

There is no such web GUI with Nest Wifi. It can only be administrated with a Google account through the Google Home app.

Hey folks,

@olavrb, appreciate your helpful response.
@HansEnders, we appreciate your interest, however, we don't have any news to share about a web-based control for Google Wifi networks. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I also suggest that you send feedback by following this link.

@Dreams23, chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,

Abi

Hi AbigailF,

Thanks for checking with me. I've refined my search and just need the IP address for my Google Nest router. There is info on the bottom of the router, but none of this looks like an IP address, and I have been unable to use the Home app to access it. How would I access this?

Thanks!

There is no web interface, so that won't help you (finding the IP address).

If you can't manage Nest Wifi from the Google Home app, you'll have to factory reset all Nest Wifi units using the physical button ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6246619?hl=en ), then set up the network from scratch ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9548301?hl=en ). If you reuse the same network name (SSID) and password, your devices should reconnect automagically.

If you are using an iOS or iPadOS device for the setup, make sure to check following guide if you encounter problems:
