Can't set up my new Nest Wifi!

Just bought a new Nest Wifi pack (router + two points) to replace my ageing Google Wifi network.

Google Home app sees the new router, allows me to scan the QR code... but after that:

I've done a factory reset... I've swapped out my ethernet cables... I've tried different LAN ports on my modem... nothing helps.

Do I need to completely kill off my old Google Wifi network before setting up the new Nest Wifi?  I thought I'd be able to set up the new network alongside the old one, and then migrate all my devices across.

Any advice for a very frustrated person?!

Okay, turns out that I had a VPN on without knowing (!) which was preventing the connection.

But I still wonder... would I have had to delete the old network completely before installing the new one?  That's what I ended up doing, but I don't know if it was part of the solution or not.

Hi folks,

@WazzaRdGoogs, thanks for reaching out. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your new Nest Wifi setup. Using VPN when setting up your Nest Wifi would certainly cause issues. Please observe it for now and let us know if anything comes up.

@bartok, how's it going with your Google Wifi? Were you able to try the steps that worked with WazzaRdGoogs?

Thanks,

Edward

Thanks for following up Edward.  All is fine now... Google Nest Wifi up and running beautifully.

The only odd thing is that the main router shows up as Offline in my Google Home app... even though it's online and working fine.

I can click on it, and can still run speed and mesh tests.

🤔

(I would upload screenshots but it says I don't have permission!)

Hi WazzaRdGoogs,

Thanks for the response. It's possible that this is just an app issue, could you try clearing the cache of your Google Home app?

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

Wifi all working fine, but main router still showing up as OFFLINE in the Google Home app.

As other users have said, it's not affecting performance at all... it's just a mild annoyance!

All good 🙂

Hi WazzaRdGoogs,

Thanks for the response. In some cases, this happens when you're using a modem / router combo. You could try putting it on bridge mode and let us know if there are changes.

Thanks,

Edward
