Cannot add nest wifi point to establish mesh

Hi;

I have bought a two pack Google nest wifi with a router and a point. I use the Google home app to install. Installing router is like a charm, but when I try to install the point I get into serious problems. First I get a message " This Nest Wifi point was manufactured for a different country, and may not be compatible with your wifi network." This is a bit difficult to understand because the wifi network I am connected to is from Google nest router.

But in the next step I get more serious. Then I get the message " Could not communicate with your Nest wifi point".

And that is end of setup without adding any point.

This is done in Thailand and the Internet provider is AIS. The fiber modem/router is Huawei HG8245W5-AIS

I realize that Google nest wifi is not supported in Thailand, and this set is made for us in USA.

But it gets more weird. I have a Linux Ubuntu connected to the Huawei wifi. I managed to share the Linux Ubuntu Ethernet port and connected the Google nest wifi router to the Ubuntu ethernet port after factory reset.  The Ethernet port now looks like Internet to the Goggle nest wifi router. Then I started the install prosess again. This time I managed to install both the router and the point. But at first the point only showed up as a device under the router. But after a small while then the Google home app asked if I wanted to establish a mesh. I answered yes and everything worked. Then I moved the router ethernet cable back to the Huawei and powered on. Still worked like a charm. Is it likely that Google has made it difficult to install mesh if connected to Huawei equipment? I know that  Huawei is banned in the states, but I still find this a little strange?

Anyone has similar experience or anything to add?

Hi, chevyfan.

Sorry for the setup issues you're seeing. I imagine that's frustrating and confusing. I think the main issue you're running into is that Thailand isn't a supported region for the Nest WiFi products. Due to differences in wireless standards between countries, there are some regions where the products may not function completely or at all. The variations in your setup might work around some of the issues, but it's really hard to diagnose problems outside of an officially supported region.
You could try reaching out to support to see if they can take a closer look at your setup and see if they can get you online. You would reach them via phone or chat here: https://bit.ly/3o1aRK5.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Thanks,

- Jeff
