Cannot change WAN to PPPOE on Nest Router

ISP reguires me to switch from WAN setting DHCP to PPPOE, I follow all instructions, even Google Support had me reset to factory settings.  PPPoE is still greyed out in "Advanced networking".."WAN connection"..."PPPoE" does not matter if I disconnect the router or not will not allow me to go into PPPoE.  Google support does not have the answer as they keeping giving me advice that does not work.  I have spent many hours on the phone with support!  Is it because I have an Iphone (IOS) that supports the home app?

Can anyone help, this is ridiculous!
