Connecting 2 Nest routers via wireless P2P ethernet

Hey Guys

Long time Nest WiFi user and this was my current setup

- One primary Nest router plugged into my ISPs modem

- This router's connected, via ethernet to another router on another floor

- 3 wireless nodes around the house

All this was running fine but I have an outbuilding about 50m away where the signal was very weak. I couldnt run a ethernet cable so I put up a Ubiquiti Building to Building wireless ethernet setup. Now my setup is -

- One primary Nest router plugged into my ISPs modem

- 3 wireless nodes around the house

- This plugs into a unmanaged switch (TL-SG105))

- One cable goes to the other router on another floor, which works fine.

- The other cable goes to the wireless P2P bridge ( https://store.ui.com/products/unifi-building-to-building-bridge)

- At the end of the bridge, I plugged in a new Nest router. This is the one I cant seem to set up. Whenever I try, it comes up with "your nest WiFi setup failed"

funny thing is I have plugged in my desktop coming from that router and that works. I just cant get it to be added to my mesh

Any ideas?

Just tried to plug the new router directly into the existing router and it still didn't work. Tried with a switch and also nope.. hmm

Hello @varshnei

I'm glad to hear you got this working. The "trick" may be that you typically need to get a new device set up as a wireless mesh node first before connecting it via Ethernet. That may require doing the setup in your home before moving it to the outbuilding. But, it sounds like you got past that eventually.

Hey, varshnei.

It looks like you were able to get everything sorted out. It's been a little while, so I just wanted to follow up and make sure things are still working or to see if you needed anything else here. If you're still needing help, please let me know.

Thanks.
