Connecting an existing Google Wifi to a new provider and change the old network name

Al11

I had my Google WiFi connected to ATT in my old house. In my new house I have Comcast with their router/wifi. I am purchasing my own modem and want to use my old Google Wifi. I changed my network name and password for Comcast. My Google WiFi still has the old network name and password. How do I keep my new network name and password when I plug in the Google WiFi mesh to my new modem?

Hey Al11,

Thanks for posting. To clarify, what message are you getting during setup? Also, did you factory reset your Google Wifi router already? We'll wait for your update.

Best,
Abi

Hi sorry I just read your reply. I did to a factory reset on the router thinking that was the problem. However when I just tried to find the device on my Google Home app it could not locate it. Also when the device is initially plugged in it is solid blue then goes off.

Hi Al11,

A few questions: what device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Also, do you have Internet from your modem?

Give these steps a try:

After seeing your Google Wifi on a solid blue state, wait until the light turns pulsing blue. That's the time you can start doing the setup.
Inspect the bottom of your main point for the setup network and setup code.
Go to your phone's settings, then WiFi. Then check if that same setup network will appear as one of the available WiFi networks your phone can connect to.
If already connected, I need you to forget that network and reconnect back.
If not yet, I need you to connect to it and use the setup code as the password.
Turn off your cellular data and make sure that your Bluetooth and location services are on. Then check if you can still access the Internet while only connected to the setup network.
Reinstall your Google Home app.
Attempt setup.
Try another phone.
If the issue persists, factory reset your device.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Abi

Using IOS 16.2 iPhone 11 and the modem did show internet.

I've already done a factory reset because I thought that was causing the problem. The Google WiFi was used at my last home with ATT and now I am using Xfinity.

The device shows a solid blue then goes off.

I am trying to switch from the Xfinity modem/wifi to Netgear CM500 with Google wifi. As I mentioned previously, the Google device starts as solid blue then turns off. The instructions for adding a new device says to wait until the device blinks white which it never does.

Hello Al11,

Thanks for the update. Apologies for the late reply. To confirm, can you check if you actually have the Google Wifi router? Normally, it's the Nest Wifi that pulses white when it's ready for setup. You can confirm by checking this link. We'll wait for your update.

Best,
Abi
