Hi
I have a 2nd Gen Google Mesh router which is connected via ethernet cat 6 to 2 gen 1 mesh access points. This configuration has been working well for the past 4 months. But in the last few days several devices appear to be connecting to the Mesh router, even though the signal is weak. I am sitting beside one of the gen 1 access points. My phone is connected to that point and I am getting 300mb. But my laptop is constantly switching to the main router which has a weak signal & I constantly get poor call quality.
The other access point is having a similar issue. I have an amazon firestick which starts up and connects to the gen 1 wifi point with great speeds. But after while I drops back and connects to the main router with terrible speeds & the firestick is then unusable.
Any idea what could cause this? it has been working for months with my current configuration but for the past few days it has become almost unsuable.

Hi, it looks like my issue was a wiring problem.
I have a a cat6 cable going from the google router to a switch & then cat6 out to the 2 gen1 wifi points. I replaced both rj45 connecters on the wire from the router to the switch & that seems to have fixed the issue.

Hey @bergipau .
Thanks for the update and glad you were able to get it resolved. I've had a similar incident happen to me in the past when I didn't get a good crimp on a connector.
Just a tip: Invest in a cable tester if you make your own cables like I do. It will save you a lot of headaches, even if you make cables rarely, since it can verify the connections are good. The instance I had was because I didn't bother testing that cable (lesson learned); I practically kicked myself when I finally figured out what it was.
