My modem is in the living room, connected to a Google Wifi mesh router, about 100 feet away from my home office. I'm putting a 2nd mesh router in my home office to bolster my connectivity. I'm curious, would it help to run an ethernet cable from that 2nd router to my laptop, or would that not make a difference?

If possible then yes, a wired connection is always superior to a wireless one. I run a combination of both, and while wireless works , it's not always great as compared to the wired ones.
