Double Nest router, triple unmanaged switch speed issue

I have a situation which is infuriating. My setup is thus: Virgin Media Superhub 4 in modem mode ---> Primary Nest router --->  unmanaged switch (in same room as router) ---> unmanaged switch (in attic) ---> unmanaged switch (in the garden room) ---> 2nd Nest router. Inside in the room with the hub and 1st (primary) Nest router I get wired and wireless connections with speeds in excess of 450/500Mbs. When I connect a laptop directly to the ethernet cable in the garden room I get speeds of 250/300Mbs. If I connect the 2nd Nest router as a wireless access point I get wireless speeds in the garden room of ~60Mbs as the distance is quite large between the two Nest routers. If I backbone the 2nd Nest router using the same ethernet cable I just got the 250/300Mbs from it makes no difference to my speeds. What is more, if then take another ethernet cable and plug it in to the LAN port of the 2nd Nest router and then plug that in to the same laptop, the wired speeds are also down at ~60Mbs. So in summary, the wired speed is reaching the 2nd Nest router but it is not then transmitting anything like this either wired or wirelessly. I am at the end of my tether when on Teams/Skype/Zoom calls and every few minutes my connection hangs and then returns about 5-10 seconds later. I should add that all the above wireless speeds are replicated using my Google Pixel 6 Pro in each of the locations. Please somebody help.

Thanks,

Andy

HI Delwah,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Google Nest Wifi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What's the make and model of your unmanaged switches?
  • Could you try swapping the switches to isolate the issue?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi, Delwah.
I just wanted to jump in real fast to see if you saw Edward's reply and to see if you still needed some help on this or if you were able to get it sorted out. If you are still needing some help, just let us know and we'll be happy to continue helping.
Thanks.

thanks both. the issue isn't with the switches, so swapping them won't make any difference. as detailed above, the ethernet cable in the garden room, which is passing through all 3 switches is clocking in at 300-400MB/s. the wifi coming from the 2nd nest router in the garden room is only kicking out about 60MB/s even when back-boned using the very same ethernet cable.

Yes, still having the same issues. really annoying and really disappointing as when I first installed it things seemed to be working fine.
