Good day,
I have a 1GB fibre line. Doing speedtests on Google home, the download speed stays at around 50mbps. My isp is Afrihost / Vumatel
Can anyone perhaps help me to reflect the correct download speed on my google home
Thank you
Ben

I've noticed the same, I just got the Nest Wi-Fi Pro 3 pack and, after setting up, I did a speed test using the Home app, the download speed was just over 240Mbit, if I do a test using either the nPerf app or site it's around what I should be getting (900Mbit down/110Mbit up).
No idea why the Google test results are so bad but it could be detrimental to users' opinion of the devices. So it's something that should be looked at.
I would suggest using nPerf for your speed test, there's an app for Windows and Android/iOS, the results for me have always been more akin to what my connection should be capable of than, for example, Ookla. The app (on both platforms) will test your speeds, common site performance and video streaming performance.

Hi @Ben10,
Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing slower download speeds than what you're paying for with your Google Nest Wifi Pro device(s). I'm happy to assist you.
In order to determine the reason why this is happening, please provide the information requested below:
How often does this issue occur? Does this happen continuously or intermittently?
Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.
Regards,
Anders

Hi @Ben10,
Thank you for replying and for the information.
Since you mentioned a change of ISP, could you please confirm whether you removed your Google Wi-Fi devices, reset them from the app, and also used the reset button as described in the article "Factory reset your Wifi device?" If you have done so, let's try troubleshooting your devices by following the steps below:
1. Remove any spaces or special characters from the SSID or password, if there's any. The SSID and password are both case-sensitive, and if there are special characters or spaces, it might cause connection issues.
2. Run a mesh test to check the connection of their points.
3. Run a 5 minute power cycle:
4. Make sure to double-check the model to verify if it's a modem, modem and router combo, or router.
5. Change the password on Google Wifi's network.
Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.
Regards,
Anders

Hi @Ben10,
Thank you for confirming that you followed the troubleshooting steps. I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing the same inconvenience.
Please confirm if the internet speed is the same when a laptop or supported device is connected directly to the modem via Ethernet cable.
In the meantime, please follow the steps below to change the DNS in order to continue troubleshooting:
These are the primary Google DNS servers that have been tested and confirmed to be quick and reliable nationwide.
Please keep me posted.

Can I ask what speeds you are getting when you test from a device on the network? If you connect your phone to the WiFi and go to fast.com what speeds are you getting download?

Honestly, there is a bug, I was getting the same issue, PPPoE reading 200Mbps, I put a smart switch in between my Google WiFi and the ONT and now it is showing the correct speeds. There is a bug relating to speed tests with the Google WiFi in PPPoE mode.

There appears to be a bug with the Home App at present, misreporting test results.
I get 200Mbs if I test in the Google Home App, testing on the network, further away from the ONT I get 1Gbs.
This is a PPPoE issue and Google really need to fix.
