Hi, I have company laptop that suddenly wont connect to my G-home network.  Other devices connect fine. The company support team asked if I had an extender and I said no, but no I notice there are two Nest connection options on my wifi list, Nest Wifi and Next Wifi-EXT.    What is this ?

Hey @philom5 .

When you set up the network, you have the option to give the devices custom names or go with the default ones; the default names are what you are seeing with the "-EXT" being the point.

The issue is likely a setting that is enabled that isn't compatible with your company's device settings and there is nothing you can do but make changes to the network. Luckily, I have seen the two most common culprits enough to hopefully make it easy to fix.

  1. Go to Google Home > Wifi > Network Settings > Advanced Networking
  2. See if WPA3 is enabled.
    • If so, disable it and reboot your network.
      • Once fully rebooted, try to connect your work laptop to one of the devices, whichever is closest.
      • If successful, nothing more to do. If not, go to Step 3.
    • If not, go to Step 3.
  3. See if IPv6 is enabled.
    • If so, disable it and reboot your network.
      • Once fully rebooted, try to connect your work laptop to one of the devices, whichever is closest.
      • If successful, nothing more to do. If not, go to Step 4.
    • If not, go to Step 4.
  4. See if "Use 160MHz is enabled.
    • If so, follow the same steps above.
    • If not, go to Step 5.
  5. If you still are unable to connect via wifi, try to plug directly into the main Google router via Ethernet cable. If you are able to connect, then it will get you working until you can work with your IT Dept to figure out what setting on the laptop is interfering with the wifi. If you cannot get connected via Ethernet, then you'll have to work with your IT Dept since the issue is not on the network side most likely.

If turning off a specific feature gets you connected via wifi, you can turn any of the others back on one at a time with a reboot in-between.

Let me know if you are able to get connected.

Thanks, I did a factory reset and added all the point from scratch, one by one, and we are back online now.    I still see the Nest_EXT in my wifi networks list, maybe it's a neighbor's, not sure.  In any case, we are back up and running on all devices.

Thx Patrick!!
