Google Mesh WiFi Not Working

billandalice

Hello - we’ve just bought a Google mesh WiFi two pack. We’ve setup the router which is successfully working in one room, but it will not connect to the second WiFi point. It simply says ‘Will not connect’.

Are we doing anything wrong, or do you think it’s a product fault? We’ve followed the setup instructions (via Google Home) exactly. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Billandalice,  I have Google Wifi Mesh Dropping lately since May.   I would unplug your Wifi Point and bring it closer to the Google Nest Router within the same room...and then power it back up and give it a few minutes to reconnect.  Then you can unplug and move it farther away to test the connection.  FYI:  the farther away the signal speed goes down.   I've 500 Mbps download, one room away dropped to 250-300 Mbps or (one floor higher ).

Hopes this help,

Tyler

Hello @billandalice,

Thanks for posting in the community.
I understand the frustration of encountering difficulties setting up your Google WiFi mesh network. I apologize for the inconvenience caused and I also appreciate your effort.

To help me troubleshoot the issue effectively, please provide the following information:

  • Google WiFi model: Please specify the exact models of your Google WiFi points (e.g., Google WiFi, Nest WiFi, or Nest WiFi Pro).
  • Network Environment: Are you using a modem/router combo or a separate modem and router?
  • Error Messages: If you're encountering any specific error messages during the setup process, please share them with me.

In the meantime you can try following the next steps:

  1. Uninstall and install the Google Home app again.
  2. Force close, then reopen the Home app.
  3. Forget nearby networks.
  4. Power Cycle your phone or tablet you are using to set up.
  5. Power Cycle Devices: Turn off your modem, router, and Google WiFi points, wait for a few minutes, then power them back on one by one, starting with the modem.
  6. Check Wi-Fi Interference: Move the Google WiFi points away from potential sources of interference like cordless phones, microwaves, or other electronic devices.
  7. Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try factory resetting the Google WiFi point that's not connecting.

@tspeng1, thank you for providing valued steps. I appreciate your help, and @billandalice, please follow the steps above and let me know how they go. Thank you.

Regards,
Jorge
