Will Google wifi Gen1 work with a Synology ds224+ NAS

Hello All,

My current LAN setup is as follows: Verizon is the ISP coming into the house using their router, that is connected to my Google Wifi Gen1 router with 2 separate wifi points.  All of the devices in my home are connected to the network from the Google Wifi router.  I am trying to connect a Synology ds224+ to that network.  Based on suggestions in several threads, I connected a small tp-link switch to the Google wifi router and the NAS to the switch.  I have not been able to find the NAS using the synology website (finds.synology.com).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. While Google Wifi Gen 1 is no longer our newest product, it should still be compatible with a Synology DS224+ NAS.

To troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Verify network connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected between your NAS, switch, and Google Wifi router.
  2. Check device status: Verify that both your NAS and Google Wifi router are powered on and functioning correctly.
  3. Assign a static IP: Consider assigning a static IP address to your NAS within the Google Wifi network range to ensure consistent accessibility. You can find this information in the Google Home app.
  4. Firewall settings: Make sure your NAS and Google Wifi firewall settings allow access to the necessary ports for Synology Assistant and DSM.
  5. Try a different network port: If possible, connect your NAS to a different Ethernet port on the Google Wifi router or switch.

If you continue to experience issues, please provide more details about your network setup, including:

  • The exact model of your Google Wifi router.
  • The model of your TP-Link switch.
  • Any error messages you're encountering.

With this information, I can provide more specific troubleshooting steps.

Best,

Brandon.
