Google Nest WiFi Pro (6e) - Point connected by ethernet is not connecting to primary point

Hello,

I have a 3-pack and have gotten one router to successfully add in Google Home as the main router.  It has a cable from the LAN to an unmanaged switch that feeds other jacks in the house.  The WAN is plugged into the ISP router/modem that has been placed into bridge mode.

The second router is outside mesh range of the first one.  So I have a cable plugged into the LAN side of that router.  I've verified the cable works between the 2nd router and the switch.  This is the same switch as the main is plugged into.

The 3rd is near the 2nd, but will need to mesh to the 2nd for network connectivity. (I am assuming this will work, if not tell me)

My issue is that this 2nd router isn't associating with the main one in some way.  The app shows it as disconnected.  But they have the same switch in common?  Because its not connected the 3rd will not connect.

I've gotten the first 2 to add to google home.  Am I supposed to add extra router that is wired in in a special way?  Is there a step I am missing?

TBH, I am a bit disappointed it wasn't a 'just works' sort of thing for how little documentation there is for it.  I would have expected the 2nd router to 'discover' the first and become associated without issue.

Hi @r2rknot,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're having some inconveniences setting up your third Nest Wifi Pro router/point in the Google Home app to create a mesh network. I also appreciate the information you've provided about the troubleshooting steps you've already taken and how you've set up your devices. This is definitely not the experience to expect when initially setting up your devices in the Google Home app. I'm happy to help.

Based on the information provided, it's important to mention that the points must be set up wirelessly before the user plugs in Ethernet cables for a wired mesh. That's why I recommend you continue setting up your devices wirelessly, and once all your devices are set up in the Google Home app, you can then set up your mesh network through a wired connection.

Another important point is that users shouldn't connect the access points to upstream routers or switches. This prevents the detection of the Wi-Fi device during setup because the router receives an IP address outside of the Google Wifi network's range.

Please verify the information you provided and try to set up your third Nest Wifi Pro device, avoiding setting it up wirelessly and without a switch that would prevent the detection of the Wi-Fi device during setup.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Anders
