Google Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) unable to create mesh-network with iPhone 14 Pro

ASK77
Community Member

Hi,

I've tried for two days now to setup my mesh-network through the Google Home App on iPhone 14 Pro. It will not connect to my two additional APs to setup the mesh-network.

First round in the initialsetup after the first router is configured, it just throws:

googlemac_iphone_home_wifi_operations_impl_impl.pollforcompletionoperationimpl-error 0

On the second one, after that all attempts to configure the other two routers(APs) fail.

I've tried:

* resetting/uninstalling/reinstalling the Google Home App

* Resetting/rebooting the main router.

* Hitting the tiny button on the bottom of the other two APs.

Also have a very hard time getting the QR-code to read from my iPhone. Successful only 1 out of 10 times. Frustrating.

Hey ASK77,

I wanted to hop in real fast to see if I can help you out here. I found another member on the forums that was having issues getting the Nest WiFi Pro to setup using their iPhone Pro 14. They were able to complete setup without troubles by using a second device. Do you have access to an iPhone that's older or maybe an iPad that you could try for setup? Let me know if you have access to a secondary device or not and we can pick up things from there.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

yeah, I forgot to mention that in my first post. Tried with my old iPhone Xs, samme situation. It tries to connect to the AP, but cant make a connection, when I quit the Google home ap, my phone is connected to the APs setup WIFI, and I manually need to reconnect to my propper WIFI. I'm dusting of my old iPad now, and charing it. Will know in an hour or so if that works.

Having the same issue.  Completely unable to set up the second Wifi Pro with an iPhone 14.

Hey GothicCastle,

We're seeing a few reports of setup trouble with the iPhone 14. Do you happen to have a second device you can try for setup, such as an older iPhone or an iPad? If so, let me know if that works for you.

Thanks,

Jeff

I’ve seen someone mention that they got it working by turning off the iCloud private relay, maybe try that

I had that issue. Turn off private relay and personal hotspot

Some general iPhone guidelines.

Make sure the device used for the setup process with the Google Home app have no VPN enabled/ connected; not any 3rd party product, nor the "Apple iCloud Private Relay" ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212614 ).

Make sure the Google Home app has been granted permission for "local network access" ( https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7172427?hl=en ).

Make sure that proxy is set to disabled while connected to the Nest Wifi network ( https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/disable-proxy-safari/#ios ).

When adding additional points: IPv6 on Nest Wifi has caused strange problems lately. One thing to try is to disable IPv6 ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6361450?hl=en ), add new Nest Wifi unit, then leave IPv6 off or enable it again.

I am having the same trouble with my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I switched to a Smartisan R2 (an android device) and it works.

Hi everyone,

@olavrb and StimmO, thanks for the help.

To all, I suggest trying the steps provided above. Let us know if you're still having trouble setting up ― we'd love to help.

Best,

Mel

Hi all,

so turning of the iCloud Private Relay helped, but I still have issues. I now can connect to my extra AP, and it starts to configure the AP, but fails with "Unable to join meshnetwork". Using the default add device setting in Google Home. Getting closer, but still no sigar.

Troubleshooting this issue, I've tried:

  • IPV6 is off
  • Google Cloud services are off (on the main AP)
  • Google feedback service is off ( on the main AP)
  • Main Accesspoint is in BridgeMode.
  • Tried with iPhone Xs, iPhone 14 Pro.
  • No VPNs on any device, iCloud Private Relay disabled.
  • Private Accesspoints on the phones are disabled.
  • Deleted Google Home app, reset the main AP to factory settings. Still same issue, not able to add the two other mesh APs.
  • The QR-code reader works better on iPhone Xs than iPhone 14 pro.

"Main Accesspoint is in BridgeMode."

Have you set the main Nest Wifi puck to bridge mode? Mesh does not work if Nest Wifi is set to bridge mode. And you can only have one (1) bridged Nest Wifi puck in a Google Home home.

Sorry to hijack, but;

My ISP told me to set their modem/router to bridge mode before connecting the google nest to the "modem". My Nest Pro is set to NAT mode. Is this a problem?

Your ISP is correct, their equipment (modem) should be in bridge mode. Nest Wifi should not. More about double NAT:

Hey folks,

We appreciate your help here, @olavrb.
@goose1, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,
Mel

Hey @Jhonleanmel ,

Thanks for reaching out. I am still completely unable to add a second AP to the first and I have tried every tip I have come across including removing and factory resetting both AP's and doing the whole setup process with an android device. Setting up the first AP is never a problem but whenever I try to add the second, the first will eventually start blinking yellow, the phone will loose the connection to it and the whole process errors out. What can I do?

Hi goose1,

Thanks for the update. If you have an extra Ethernet cable, try to connect the main point to the additional point then setup on your Google Home app. Once the setup is complete, you can remove the Ethernet cable.

Best,

Mel

Hi @Jhonleanmel ,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried connecting the two APs together using an ethernet cable and I've tried with both ports on the second AP, and I tried to reboot both AP's before trying the setup with the ethernet cable, and I've tried factory resetting both AP's before trying setup with the ethernet cable, and in every instance, eventually the first AP starts blinking yellow, the phone loses the wifi connection and the process errors out. So this does not work either. Anything else I can try?

Best

Thanks for the added details, Odsy.

Hopefully using the Android device gets everything set up for you. We've seen a few people have troubles with the setup process, but once the network is up and running, they've not had any problems managing the network from any of their devices. We'll wait and see if using the borrowed device gets you online and we can continue troubleshooting from there.

Thanks,
Jeff

So, I'm having the same problem when trying to create a mesh network by adding the second Nest Pro device using Google Home on my iPhone 14 Pro. Setting up the first node went fine, adding the second does not work. I bought a 3 pack so I tried both the remaining nodes and neither worked. I had read elsewhere that it might be a iOS problem so I borrowed my wife's Samsung Galaxy S20 and it doesn't work with that either. So it appears to me that this is NOT an iOS issue.

I am experiencing the same issue when i try to set up my 2nd node of Google Nest Wifi Pro. As Goose1, the initial access point goes fine, but when i try to add another node i get the error "googlemac_Iphone_Home_Wifi_Operations_Impl_Impl.PollForCompletionOperationImpl-feil 0"

I am using an Iphone 11, and I also tried with my wife's Iphone 13, neither works.

  • The Google Home app has been granted permission for "local network access"
  • The proxy is set to disabled while connected to the Nest Wifi network
  • I've tried with both IPv6 enabled and disabled, but this does not make a difference.
  • My ISP router is set to bridge mode.

I've also tried several factory resetts and changing what node is connected with cable to my ISP router.
As I also have bought a 3-pack, it is a bit frustrating not being able to utilize more than one of the three devices.

How close is the 2nd unit to the primary one during this? Try to keep it close, in sight.

Also, you did not mention anything about VPN or Apple iCloud Private Relay: Make sure that is disabled/disconnected too, else your iPhone won't be able to see devices on you LAN, which is what your error message suggests is the error (or at least how I read it).

Thanks for the feedback, I have tried having both nodes in the same room, so yes, they should be in range of each other.

I know my iphone 11 is set up with a VPN, but my wifes phone is not, and I made sure to disable the iCloud Private Relay, but alas, no improvements.

I have borrowed an Android device from work, and will try thisone later today, to see if that improves the situation.

I have experienced exactly the same and tried all possibilities proposed above without beeing able to connect nodes to the mesh. Spoke to Google support in Norway and they had not heard of this problem. I would have expected Google find out whats causing this and publish a solution.

If nothing of the above works, try from a different iOS, iPadOS or Android device, using the Google Home app with the same Google account, or a Google account that has been granted access to the specific Google Home home ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9155535?hl=en ).

What is the next step after you have tried all of these including trying with an Android device and it still does not work?

Odsy
Community Member

I have now tried with both an IOS and an Android device, and I am not able to pair up my 2nd and 3rd node to my primary access point.

Setting up my primary access point (wired to my ISP router) is no problem, and I get a wifi connection to this without any issues, as mentioned earlier, my problems start when trying to add more AP's.

The below post describes the exact same issue I am experiencing when trying to add more APs to my network with an Android device.

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Google-Nest-Wifi-Pro-setup-process-and-errors/td-p/...

I have given up trying with my IOS device, and will continue to troubleshoot with my android.

Hello. Another Norwegian here... with Altibox as ISP. After several very long calls with Google Support. I was turned away (referred to Altibox) As per info from Google support, after they had gone through my network log dumps etc, they believe its a Altibox Zyxel home central issue. Basically an IP allocation/bridge issue of some sort. I find it abit hard to believe... since i have full internet access... if i connect manually to the "setup network" of one of the mesh nodes (whilst it is hardwired to the master) Altibox will send a new fiber home central in the mail.

goose1
Community Member

Interesting. I also have Altibox, but I have their FMG modem. Are you experiencing the same issue where you can set up the master point but fail to add a second? Guess I'll have to contact Altibox and see what they say. Google just stopped responding to me so I kinda hope I can just return the thing.

leifarneb

Yes, The exact same issue when adding a secondary node.

Just got a reply from Altibox now. Seems there is a massive issue with the ISP.

Thanks for letting me know. Hope it doesn't take too long to fix.

goose1

So I contacted Altibox in order to see if there was an eta for a fix and apparently there was never a problem that would have caused an issue with creating a mesh network, just a smaller problem in regards to iptv functionality via google nest routers. And this problem has been fixed. So I guess we have to talk with google again.

Tried with an old Sony Experia phone to connect a second node. Got a bit further than with my iPhone. The  app asked for the QR code and that was accepted. Still not possible to connect to the first 6E and establish the mesh. This is driving me mad.

ASK77

Still having issues with my 2nd and 3rd device. Going on 2 weeks now...Frustration level is high. Now it fails on the step for creating the mesh network, with the first device failing with blinking amber light, and the google home app reporting no access to the internet and just fails the process. Have reset everything, that just made things worse.

I have the exact same issue. Have you found a solution?
