Google Nest and iinet Settings with TP Link AC1600 modem

Hi there,

recently purchased a Google nest wifi router with 2 point but cant connect it to the internet with iinet as my ISP and have Superfast HFC.

I am using a TP-Link VR1600V (also called AC1600) modem that was supplied by iiNet. I have tried to put the modem in bridging mode but still cant connect. Think it is an issue with VLAN Tagging or setup which i am using as not an expert in this area.

Also would like confirmation on connections when in bridging mode being NBN into modem (in bridging mode VLAN 2) on WAN port, then from LAN1 into google nest "globe" port. Is that right? I assume i can then connect google nest LAN port into my switch for rest of my house?

Any advice / settings / setup guidance would be appreciated?

Hi everyone and thanks for your help with this one. I have managed to set up the TP Link AC1600 model in bridging mode with the following settings:

On your model settings page (I used 198.168.1.1 to enter and then username / password), go to the Advanced page. Under EWAN press Add ad then set up a new Ethernet Connection Type = Bridge

  • VLAN ID = enables
  • VLAN ID = 2 (which suits my ISP requirements being iinet
  • 802.1P = 0
  • Internet Connection Type = Bridge

This comes up with a WAN Interface Name of br_6

In the Interface Grouping page LAN1 has WAN Interface set to br_6 and LAN2/3/4 are blank

Plugged the Google Nest into LAN1 port and then setup Google Nest via the Google Home app and it all worked. Then turned off the wireless from the AC1600 and using the Google Nest mesh wifi.

All appears to be working and i now have great wifi across the house and even far areas of backyard / across the street where i previously had no / limited wifi.

Bit frustrating that i need to use the AC1600 as a bridge between my NBN modem and Google Nest but it is what it is.

Hope this helps everyone.
