Google Nest not connecting to modem

Hi.

I just recontracted my fibre broadband with my ISP from 1gbps to 3gbps. My google nest wifi was previously connected to the old modem and it worked fine. Now after the recontract, they replaced my modem and the google nest wifi is unable to connect to the new modem. I've tried with another standard TP link EX510 router that i had and it was able to commect and the wifi was working fine.

I'm wondering if the google nest wifi I purchased in Dec 2022 is unable to support 3gbps internet from the new modem's 10Gbps port? Is that the case? Or should the nest router work with the modem? I've performed several reboots and even did a couple of factory reset for the nest router but it just doesn't connect. I keep getting the error message to reboot my modem.

I tried connecting the spare router I had inbetween the modem and the google nest (i.e. Modem -> TP link Router -> Google nest) and that restored connectivity on my nest wifi. However, in this scenario, I am unable to add my nest wifi point to my nest router to create the mesh network that I had previously. It keeps getting stuck at the "Adding wifi point to your network". I've done the recommended steps as I've seen on forums - factory reset wifi point / brought it right next to my main nest router / uninstall and reinstall google home, but to no avail. I'm wondering if it's because of the dual router connection that the wifi point is unable to be added? Wondering if there's a workaround for this?

I am lost for a solution at the moment and was hoping you guys could shed some light and provide a solution for my situation

If you're trying to add a Nest wifi point through an Android device, the Google Home app is awaiting a hotfix for this to happen apparently. It works with an iOS device though if you have one. I had the same issue last week (able to add the router but not the wifi points) and after several hours of frustration was advised to use an iOS (Apple) device if I had one, otherwise wait for the hotfix to be rolled out or return the product for a refund.  It's on a community somewhere in here. I was advised to remain patient and the fix will be out in the next few days (current Home version is 3.28.1.7). Hope this helps and might be your issue.

We moved into a new home and brought our Google Nest router and another nest point. We have connected the main to the internet provider's router. But we can't connect our nest wifi point for better coverage.

Hi Gabriela,

No worries. I managed to resolve the issue on my own using the following fixes (may be helpful noting for future people who may have the same issue):

1. Connected the modem to the nest wifi with a cat 5E cable instead of the usual cat 6 cable provided. This helped to throttle down the speed from my isp from 3gbps to 1gbps.

2. For the wifi point, andriod devices were having some issues. Managed to connect the wifi points to the main router using an iOS device.

Thank you this worked to get my wifi point connected back to the main router.

Still having issue with nest router connecting directly to the modem though.

Hi

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear your Google Nest WiFi is not connecting to the modem, but there's no need to worry; I'm happy to help you right now.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • What is the LED status light on your Nest WiFi point and the Nest WiFi router?
  • Who is your Internet Service Provider?
  • Is your Wi-Fi router connected to be in Bridge mode?
  • Did you try to connect the Nest WiFi Point with another device?
  • What is the device model you are using to set up your device, Android or iOS?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

Try using an iOS device. Andriod Google Home is having some issues
