Google Play and Youtube not working on Google Wifi Gen 1

Hello,

Google Play and Youtube are not working properly when connected to Google Wifi router (Gen 1):

  • Impossible to download Apps in Google Play Store when an Android device is connected to the Google Wifi. Works fine on any other wifi.
  • Apps do not get updated when on Google Wifi either. We have connect to another wifi to make sure apps get updated.
  • Youtube buffers 10-15 seconds before any video or ad.

This applies to ALL devices connected to the Google Wifi - those devices all work fine when changing to another wifi or data.

I have seen other posts with same problem and followed all instructions but nothing worked.  Deleted cache in apps, reset both wifi routers and reset the home wifi multiple times.

I've also checked that address in Google Home app and Google account are the same.

Oddly enough, the problem has sometimes solved itself for short periods of time without having done anything but it always comes back.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Petereims,

Thanks for posting — let’s see what’s going on.

Please answer the following: when did you start noticing this issue? Were there any changes on your network? Is there a switch on your network? What's your Internet service provider? What's the model of your modem?

Give these steps a try and check if there's any improvement in the performance of the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network:

  1. Change the Wi-Fi password.
  2. Disable VLAN tagging.
  3. Turn off IPv6.
  4. Change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 on your primary servers and 8.8.4.4 on your secondary servers.
  5. Perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network.
    1. Disconnect the power from the modem.
    2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
    3. Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
    4. Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
    5. Connect the power from the modem to your router and points.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Lovely
