Google WiFi & WhatsApp Calls

For the past few days I have noticed intermittent issues with speed on my Google Mesh network at home. I have also noticed that when we are connected to the WiFi that we cannot make or receive WhatsApp voice calls.

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with the intermittent speeds that are affecting the WhatsApp call with your Google Mesh network. I understand how frustrating these connectivity problems can be, but don't worry; help is here. To get a deeper understanding of the situation and identify the potential cause, please provide the following information:

  • What is the approximate home/apartment lot area? Knowing the size of your space can help determine if the mesh network is adequately covering the area.
  • Are the speed issues and WhatsApp call problems happening on all your mesh access points, or just specific ones? Please let me know which access points are affected.
  • Have you made any recent changes to your network setup, such as adding new devices, changing settings, or moving access points?
  • Approximately how many devices are actively using the internet at the same time when the issues occur?
  • Have you recently changed your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
  • Do you use a single device that combines modem and router functionality, or do you have separate modem and router devices?
  • Is there a network switch located on your network?

    • Approx 900 sqm
  • Are the speed issues and WhatsApp call problems happening on all your mesh access points, or just specific ones? Please let me know which access points are affected.
    • Problems are on all mesh access points
  • Have you made any recent changes to your network setup, such as adding new devices, changing settings, or moving access points?
    • Not prior to discovering the issue. Subsequently, I did a factory reset which hasn't made any difference to the performance. 
  • Approximately how many devices are actively using the internet at the same time when the issues occur?
    • 5
  • Have you recently changed your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
    • No
  • Do you use a single device that combines modem and router functionality, or do you have separate modem and router devices?
    • We have connected the primary router (Zyxel) to the Fibre ONT, which is then connected via Ethernet LAN port to Google Wifi Router... and then each Mesh point is connected to the Google Wifi via Google Home app.
  • Is there a network switch located on your network?
    • Not sure I understand what you mean by network switch - please clarify
