Google Wifi is sometimes using Spectrum modem's DHCP server

This issue started happening few months ago where the devices sometimes latch on to the DHCP Addresses issued by Spectrum Modem and it can't connect to the internet. If I reset my device, turn-on Wi-Fi couple of times, it goes back to using Google's DHCP server pool.  Unfortunately, Spectrum locks up the modem and I can't disable DHCP on the modem. Below is a screen shot

Hello @steelersfan2020

It sounds like you may have your Nest WiFi Router unit connected through the wrong Ethernet port. The WAN port (with the globe icon) should be connected to your Spectrum internet service (and it should be the only thing connected directly to the Spectrum equipment). The LAN port (with the <-> icon) provides Ethernet connectivity to the "inner" network created by your Nest WiFi Router.

Thx Michael

I checked, and the WAN port is connected correctly from Modem to WiFi Router. The LAN port from Wifi router is connected to an 8-port unmanaged switch which have wired ethernet connections.

Is there a way to force nest Wi-fi to use the DHCP address pool from the modem (i.e. outer network) ? The devices on my inner network keep dropping every couple of days and it gets assigned the 192.168.0.xx address instead of the 192.168.86.xx address. The solution would be to reboot the device or reset the router to make things work

It seems like other folks who use Nest Wi-fi seem to have similar problems based on some of the threads I read

The Nest WiFi Router is a router + firewall that creates a new inner network. It has to be on a separate network number than the outer network.

If you have that connected as described, then something else is bridging the inner (192.168.86.xx) and outer (192.168.0.xx) networks. That is a problem. Are you using any MoCa adapters? Is anything else connected to the Spectrum-provided equipment – anything other than the Nest WiFi Router unit's WAN port? Like maybe a second Nest WiFi Router unit?

Hmm...No, its just modem<-->Nest Wi-Fi Router<--> Unmanaged Ethernet Switch

 One of the LAN ports from the ethernet switch connects to a Luxul Router. It is downstream from the Nest Wi-Fi router. The Luxul Router is used for home AV system.

Could it be that Luxul Router is acting like a DHCP server?

It was setup like this 2 years ago, and never had any issue until 2-3 months ago.

Ooh... yeah, that Luxul Router could easily be causing this. You may want to take a look at how it's connected and configured to be sure.
