My Google nest has never had an issue until recently. Last week on Wednesday the Wi-Fi started going in and out. The internet remained working but the Wi-Fi would go in and out. I called Spectrum they said something was wrong with the modem and yesterday they said they fixed it. They are now claiming that it is Google that is the issue. Spectrum said that I'm probably on a channel that a lot of people are on and that's the issue. I spoke to someone from Google yesterday and they troubleshooted the issue. The internet has still been calling on and off and I don't know what to do. I have already unplugged the modem and the router and then plug the modem waiting for the internet to work and plugged in the router. I have reset the priorities and my modem is a modem alone. I need help.

This is not a recent issue from Google Wifi repeaters. If you search internet you will see hundreds of reviews reporting DNS problems and internet disconnects since 2020.

I think that google already knows that this problem is there but cannot solve without refund. It's unbeliave that a big company like Google negleciat this.

Chrome will return this during the problem DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG

While some gadgets will lose connection several times per hour.

Yes this has started happening in the last couple of weeks. My phone gets knocked off the network consistently at least 3 tines a day. Speeds are slow. My streaming as well. I using a cable modem and Google nest wifi points

Similar issue here. I have the router and 2 points. Been using this setup for over nearly 2 years and never had an issue until 2 weeks ago. Now i keep getting disconnected and reconnected within a few seconds, but it's really annoying for work calls as I'll be frozen for 5-10 seconds while it reconnects. Prior to 2 weeks ago never had the issue. Nothing has changed in my setup or other devices in the house

Hello! Same here with 5 points and a router. The connection crashes for some time I lost connection.

I added 2 more thinking maybe that would help with 45 devices but same issue.  I have one as a router and 4 access points now and they randomly drop over and over.  Very frustrating can't find a fix.

We have an infrared heater downstairs and tried to just see if it's when that kicks on or something strange but this seems more like an actual issue with the firmware because turning off the heater etc didn't help.

The internet service provider changed the modem with a powerful wifi included, so I don't need the nest wifi router for now. Hope you can find a solution.

So what I'm gathering after reviewing this entire thread, is that there is currently no solution?

I've got Telus Fiber Optic Gigabit internet running through a Nokia modem, one router and 2 points over 1200 Sq ft. My TV is Google TV through Chromecast, with roughly 60 devices connected to the mesh network.

Wifi cuts in and out repeatedly throughout the day. I've reset the network, reset the modem, unplugged, re-plugged...its frustrating. You spend a bunch of money on a mesh system capable of managing all the devices, but it keeps cutting out. I've got a 3 year old and 5 year old who ensure I'm aware of the issue EACH AND EVERY TIME IT CUTS OUT.

Are there any solutions, or am I SOL?

There is a solution because 2-3 years ago everything worked perfect. I think that was a bad update that caused all these actual issues. What i see here is a very bad and stupid support and assistance. Looks like no one on google cares about the feedback and bad products on customer's house.

Should add that test speeds are consistently like the picture, whenever I test.

Agreed we can run speed test in they are perfectly fine but then poof the network goes down.

It is unacceptable whatever changed and they haven't acknowledged the issue or said we should have a fix in 1 or 2 weeks or some ETA.

I ordered a NetGear Orbi Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System now because this issue is affecting everything after I have heavily invested in 5 Nest Access Points 😞

It's sad...the Nest System is not cheap, especially when you get additional points. And it's not any cheaper to transition to a new system. You would think a premium product would operate like one.

I have the exact same symptoms. Please note that wired connection with Ethernet on the puck fixes the issue ....

Agreed and I would rather keep my Nest WiFi.

Google Engineers please help!

I've read through this thread as well.   About two to three weeks ago our nest system started dropping internet.  If I connect directly to my comcast wifi router it works fine, but I bought the google system to spread better through the house.     We originally had the netgear orbi system but it kept doing the same thing so we returned it to costco and bought this and it worked great for almost a year.  Cut to now ... I've done everything to fix this ...DNS assignment, reboot, reset you name it.   It seemed to work better for about a week after I manually assigned the DNS but today it started doing the same thing and dropping the internet every couple minutes for about a minute then reconnected.    I'm thinking I will return again to Costco.   Was there a firmware or software update that happened last month?   I have no idea how to find out because we were doing great up until a couple weeks ago.  Feeling so frustrated ...

I think i am having the same problem.  2 wired and 3 wireless pucks…just to be clear does it look like you have all your signal bars…it just doesnt work at all? And i u to to google home app you cant get into the wifi tab when it is down?  So maddening for people who work or study from home!

Our family Zoom sessions were destroyed tonight by Nest WiFi.

Google you purchased Nest please tell us you kept someone that can fix this or give us as the customer the option to roll back firmware within the last 6 months based upon our circumstances

Having similar/same issues with our Google Nest (3pack). We are in Canada though with SaskTel wifi. Our wifi itself is seemingly fine, although if the Gateway cuts out, we have to reset the SaskTel Gateway and all of the pods (three of them). Not the end of the world, but a pain.

However the bigger issue is that my partner is currently on a Teams call in our basement across from the Gateway and the Google Nest pod with no issues while I was completely disconnected from the internet on the second floor. We both were on Teams calls earlier this morning at the same time - I was sharing my screen - and had no issues. The other two pods (one pod is on the main floor about 3 metres over from the Gateway, the other pod is on our second story directly above) have weak connections on the Google Home App. The pod beside me has cut in and out - disconnected me from wifi on my laptop and disconnecting my company server access, my phone wouldn't load a webpage. I turned off wifi on my phone and it worked fine. An error keeps occurring when I try to run a mesh test on the app (both when using data or wifi). I used the app to restart the pod beside me (which is less than a metre away from my laptop). My laptop connected to the wifi and is really slow to load webpages. The app is still is showing a weak connection for this pod and still giving me an error message when I run a mesh test.

We have kept the pods in the same locations since we set these up in June (now December) and this happens constantly. It seems the pods aren't "meshing" very well and keeping a steady connection. I literally cannot move the pods any closer together as they are essentially stacked in our house on each floor above the next.

Will try swapping the two pods and see if the same issue occurs or if the second story pod is just a lemon. It would be great if Google could fix the bug because it's never a fun discussion with your boss about your internet dropping your connection on video calls and disconnecting you from the server randomly AND constantly...

We also lived in a different house before June where we also had SaskTel wifi, same Gateway, a lower download speed, same job, same computer, same server, and never had issues with the wifi cutting out randomly. When we moved in June, the wifi signal wasn't strong enough to reach the second story so we purchased the Google Nest system. Have had these issues ever since, even with a faster internet bundle.

Not sure where the router is in all of this, but I would keep it on the main floor with a pod in the basement and on top floor. If the router is in the basement, it will have issues communicating to the top pod and affect the mesh.

I've got mine set up like this have excellent signal strength. The system just shuts down and then reconnects seemingly every 5-10 minutes.

I understand the issue with dropped meetings. I'm the department head and my Teams meeting dropped this morning while helping the team strategize.

The deafening sound of silence from Google Support, tells me that they don't have a solution. I'm thinking that the mesh system cannot handle 200 devices as they've advertised, so system congestion is causing the router to reset frequently. Since they don't have a solution, and won't likely refund all of their customers for a product that doesn't work as advertised, they will continue to stay quiet.

“Gateway” is the router. It has to be installed in the basement by the breaker box. So we don’t have an option to move it. But I usually get a great connection on all pods and everything is dandy. Until it’s not and it cuts out. Then doesn’t figure itself out for at least an hour or so.

I have 46 devices with only 60mb down and 5mb up from CenturyLink so nothing can get to crazy.

Are most people having issues around 40 or higher as well?

We're running into this issue now as well. Have had the system for years without any issues and just over the last 3 days, every single point goes offline for about 10-15 minutes at a time, multiple times during the day. Restarting the network seems to help, but it's crazy annoying. No explanation at all for what is going on. No changes to our ISP and we haven't added any new devices to the network or made any changes to settings. Any help or thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. It is a massive disruption to our work and school routines.

So I just bought a Nest system, and feeling very disappointed. I got this to help my wifi run better, as my home has many devices and our old Spectrum router allowed no management.  So far my experience is much worse than it was with the spectrum router.  I am experiencing constant lag and disconnection when gaming.

This just started happening this week for us as well. It appears that if I don't have full wifi strength then it will drop from the internet. And even if I do have full wifi strength it can still drop intermittently. Similar to others, have been using a 3 router mesh system for over a year without issue. Now it is basically useless.

DITTO!  Spectrum user here too. Until the past few weeks I’ve had steady solid signal and feed.

What’s changed !?

Same disconnect issues here recently with Nest 3 node MESH network and have tried most of the troubleshooting recommendations to no avail; the intermittent disconnect issues over the last week have gotten more frequent and most annoying.

Same issue. Spectrum user. Nest security works fine. Wi-Fi works fine on all other devices except thermostat and myQ garage. After restarting router, both work for about an hour then disconnect. Thermostat lists all other available networks except ours. Almost appears to be forgetting our network.

I started having this issue as well.  Located in canada, I have the 3 pod system.  Every 10 min or so we loose all internet connection for about 10 seconds.  Happens both on the LAN and the wifi.  Super annoying.  Been happening for a few weeks now.  The system worked flawlessly for 2 years before this.

Another thing I realized is the router unit that is plugged into the cable modem not only disconnects the wifi to all the points but I have our TV plugged directing via ethernet cable to the router and it disconnects as well.  I thought it was just the wifi but obviously not.  Since I don't have hours and days of free time trying to resolve this with tech support or warranty claims I'm returning the system to Costco and they are sending me a new one.  I will report back in January if it works.   If it's possible I will try to keep it from doing any firmware updates automatically since I'm guessing this has to be the reason for this issue ... but could be wrong.

Had no issues with the Google WiFi mesh routers for 3 years; a week ago I replaced our cable modem to a faster one; now the Google Home app says the WiFi loses internet connection every few hours.  If I restart the cable modem, everything comes back online after a few minutes - but I've had the technicians from Comcast Xfinity come twice, and they verified that there's nothing wrong with the modem; I can do speed tests of 400 Mbps down.  But for some reason, the Google WiFi router disconnects after every few hours, and doesn't reconnect until the WAN (cable modem router) restarts itself.

I have several WebSocket devices using Real-time protocol. They never had a problem on nest before this.

Pet Safe Pet Feeders, Atomi Smart Heaters, Nest, Wyse Cameras etc

Not sure what changed because I have 5 Nest WiFi devices and because it freaked out I switched to NetGear Orbi and now have no issues so far..

Is Google even monitoring this thread? I don't think so because we have no responses... Sounds like we are people who pushed to hard or we all use their Wi-Fi differently than everyone else. Please fix this or at least tell us you can't

I was running my ISP's router in bridge mode.  I switched it back yesterday, and ran all the LAN connections directly to it.  All the obvious connection issues have dissappeared.  We don't really stream over wifi so we can't really tell if it's still happening.  But for sure the Google router acting as the gateway was the issue.  Would like to see someone from Google respond to this thread, we all paid a premium for this hardware and it fails worse than a 20 dollar benkin router.

We are experiencing the same issues. My wife and I both work from home and the issue is wreaking havoc on von connections and MS Teams calls. Any further input Google? Really bummed about the amount of money spent on the nest router and points to be having this issue!

Same issue, I keep having to factory reset the wifi point and then typically a few hours later or within a day the wifi point losing mesh connection/ internet although my main router still has internet. Even just unplugging it at times doesn't work and have to factory reset. This whole system is less than 3 months old and the first 2 months it worked flawlessly, but the last couple of weeks have been a headache.

I am having the same issue for the last few weeks as well. Main router shows connection, but many of the wifi points and devices connected to the wifi lose connection for several minutes at a time. I thought I was alone, but it seems to be a larger issue. I hope Google sends out a fix. This is getting old really fast.

Same issue. I love this Google mesh system Please help!

I started with 6 of the original Google Wifi units.  The dropping of the connection started with those.  I foolishly decided that maybe upgrading to the Nest version would fix things.  I now have the investment of 9 Google/Nest units that still crash to the point that television is unwatchable.   I live in a 4200 sf single story home that was built using 2x6 rather than 2x4 studs, so I expected some range issues, so I went with what should have been overkill.

I'm ready to find out what this pile of mesh is worth on eBay.  This thread has reinforced the belief that a solution is not in the cards.

Anyone has experience with the ASUS ZenWIFI system?

I am having the same problem. Devices will randomly loose connection to wifi then reconnect.

I am also experiencing the same issues described in this thread. I have a Netgear AC1900 modem/router combo (Wifi turned off and configured in bridge mode), a Nest Router and 3 Nest mesh points. Everything initially connected fine but recently the points drop from the network randomly. Moving them around has seemed to fix the stability issues for 1 of them but the other 2 frequently drop and I get the notification on my phone of "[My point] Offline. Make sure it's on and that the cable is securely connected". I built a wifi heatmap and I have no major gaps in signal strengths so that can't be the issue, but I don't understand what else could cause a certain point to completely disconnect from the network like this. May too many points causing congestion? (I have a 2800 sqft home) Google team, please help! I have invested WAY too much money in this system for it to have this many frequent problems.

alexloo11
Community Member

I don't think too many devices connected to one point is causing congestion. I have no more than a total of 15 devices connected to my mesh point and still experience the problem you're describing. I've done everything from factory reset with google support, to move it closer (within 15 feet from the modem/wifi router) and still experience the same problem. My suspicion is something to due with the firmware.

Mngman
Community Member

Same here. When I check my firmware version, it is 13739.57.27. Not sure if this is the same one everyone else has that's experiencing the issue.
