Google wifi point not recognized by Home app

Hello. I have recently bought a set of 3 Google Wifi mesh points (these are the older mesh points, not the Nest points and came in a pack of 3) and a single Nest Wifi Router.

I was able to successfully connect the 2 Google Wifi point and the Nest Router but the 3rd Google Wifi point is not recognized by the Google Home app.

I've tried everything I could find online in forums but nothing works. The 3rd point never worked. Here are a few things I have tried:

  • left the point on for quite a while (days) since I've read that it can take some time to be recognized.
  • connected the point to the router with an ethernet cable
  • Did factory reset several times (using the button at the back). I've noticed that the light goes from white to rapidly flashing blue, but it never goes to solid blue or to slowly pulsing blue. I've left the point on after a reset for at least a day. I've tried resetting while the ethernet cable is connected as well as without it being connected.
  • created a new home in the Google Home app and tried adding it to the new home.
  • Restarted the whole network
  • Disconnected everything from the network to make sure that other devices are not interfering
  • Removed all the devices from the Google Home app, deleted the current home and created a new empty home. Tried adding it as the first device.
  • Removed and re-installed the google home app, then created a new home and tried to add the point.
  • Tried installing from 4 different android devices
  • Tried connecting the point using an ethernet cable to a laptop to access the point through the internet browser as described here: Google Nest Wifi device or Google Wifi point doesn't have QR code - Google Nest Help
  • Probably tried other things that I can't remember

None of the above seem to be working.

The more concerning point is that it looks that the mesh point is not able to complete the factory reset process since it never stops flashing rapidly. Note that the blue flashing here is much faster than the one I have seen in the other mesh points when they are ready for setup.

Can you please help me fix this?

Hi p_salamis,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with setting up one of your Google Wifi point. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions.

  • What is the light status of your Google Wifi point when  you reboot it?
  • How long are you holding the button on the back of your Google Wifi?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hello.

When factory resetting the mesh point, I am holding the reset button for approximately 10seconds. I release it once the light turns from white to flashing blue.

After the mesh point is reset the light keeps flashing rapidly blue. I've left it on for at least two days after a reset and it keeps flashing rapidly blue. It does not turn into solid blue or slowly pulsing blue.

If after a reset I switch it off and then turn it on again the light becomes solid blue. Again I let it on for at least a couple of days and it never turns to pulsing blue.
