Google wifi point set up code issue

PapaP1

Hello,

I am trying to connect my second Google Nest wifi point but I unfortunely lost the QR code sticker. I have located a set-up code engraved in the rubber section which is comprised on letters and numbers. However, in the Google home app, I am only able to input letters as the setup code. Can someone please help?

Thank you,

Hello @PapaP1,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are trying to set up your second Google Nest WiFi point, but you lost the QR code sticker, and when trying to enter the setup code, the Google Home app is only allowing you to input letters. Let me help you with this.

Since you've clearly identified the alphanumeric code on the point, let's focus on resolving the app's input issue.

Step 1: Restart the Setup Process (App and Device)

A fresh start often clears input glitches caused by miscommunication between the device and the app.

  • Force Close the Google Home App: Completely close the Google Home app on your phone.
  • Power Cycle the WiFi Point: Unplug the power cord from the Nest WiFi point that you are trying to set up. Wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the light to start slowly pulsing blue, indicating it's ready for setup.
  • Start Setup Again: Reopen the Google Home app and initiate the setup process again (Add ---- Set up device ---- New device).
  • When prompted to scan the QR code, tap Continue without scanning, and try entering the alphanumeric code again.

Step 2: Check for App Updates

An outdated version of the Google Home app has, in the past, caused issues with accepting all characters for setup keys.

  • Go to the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) on your phone.
  • Search for the Google Home app.
  • Ensure you have the absolute latest version installed. If an update is available, install it, then return to Step 1.

Step 3: Try Using a Different Phone or Tablet

If the issue persists, the problem may be specific to your phone's operating system or keyboard input method.

  • If possible, try the setup process on a different compatible mobile device (a different phone or tablet) running the Google Home app and using your same Google Account. This will confirm if the issue is with your Nest WiFi point or your primary phone's input method.

Please try Step 1 and Step 2 first, as these are the quickest ways to resolve the input glitch. Let me know if you are now able to enter the full alphanumeric code!

Regards,

Kevin
