Google wifi router gen1 not working "Unable to communicate with your network at this time"

This problem started a few days ago after working okay for a couple of years. I didn't make any changes, so don't know what triggered it. Tried manual factory reset, and Google home app invited me to rename the router and enter a password, which I did but I got this error message.

 

My modem is working fine. It's just the Google Wi-Fi router. Any ideas?

Check the thread on firmware issues with google wifi and nest wifi. Nest-Wifi/Google-Wifi-firmware-137############-frequently-disconnected

After 3+ years of stable service with google wifi, my 4-puck mesh network acted up in January for a couple weeks. Required a complete shutdown, factory reset, and redoing all the mesh connections. So far, so good. Make sure you have an up-to-date Google Home app to get diagnostics.

@invitado and Usernames4ever, I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with setting up your Google WiFi router after a reset. I'd love to know more about this, and I have a few questions:

  • What's the light status of your Google WiFi?
  • Have you tried power cycling the Google WiFi router before setting it up again?

ET, phone home to the mother ship and ask them to send out new firmware for these wonky Google WiFi and Nest WiFi pucks!!
