Hardwire only one of two Wifi Pro points.

Hello.  I have a three unit Wifi Pro system.  I'm wondering if it's possible to hardwire only one of the two points back to the primary.  All the suggested setups I've found are to hardwire both back to the primary.  Due to my house layout, I'm only able to hardwire one of them.  Would that create a problem for the mesh system?  Please see below.

It should work. It's also known as mixed backhaul, in case you want to search for older threads. Things that are good to know:

  • Mesh (802.11s) doesn't travel over ethernet, so hardwiring the 2nd unit won't make the wireless signal to the 3rd wireless unit any better.
  • Mesh (802.11s) prefers fewer hops, so if that wireless unit can reach the main/primary/master, even with weak signal strength, it will.

I don't work for Google.

Yes, the third unit should connect back to the primary.  I luckily can place the primary relatively in the center of the second and third units.   Thank you!

It worked great for me with the first generation Google Wifi so it should work for you.

Good to know, thank you!
