Help Setting up new Nest Wifi to Fios Router

kmac1234

Hi

I have Google Wifi connected to Fios router (~10 years old). Bought new Nest Wifi and trying to setup via Google Home App. It can find the device for setup but at next step always says cant connect to network etc.

I have not done anything to my old Google Wifi setup (except to unplug it and use the modem cable to connect instead to the Nest Wifi - i see some suggestions that i need to purge the original google wifi from my Google Home app - i am nervous to do this in case i end up with no internet)

I thought this would be more seamless . Am i doing something wrong ?

Thanks, K

A Google Home home can only have one network in it. For testing you could create a new, empty Google Home home and set up the new Nest Wifi devices in that, that way you'll keep the old network if you want to be able to switch back fast.

But if you want the new Nest Wifi network in your existing Google Home home, the old network must be factory reset and deleted. Or purged, as you say. 🙂

I don't work for Google.

This is perfect - thanks for help olavrb . I disconnected google wifi network and then the setup for nest wifi was really smooth and straightforward. Thanks for confirming. Note to google - there is probably an easy message you could add in the setup when I try to add a nest wifi that would just confirm I need to first delete the existing wifi that it knows about
