I am trying to set up a point on my google nest wifi pro 6e…to be is wired I know I’m doing something wrong because once I put a wired point in the mix I can no longer add new ones and the mesh falls apart.
Im trying to educate myself but am new at this.
Here is my set up. First much of my house is hard wired.
1. The line from the modem goes from the modem to the first point in our laundry room.
2. Another cat 6 cable goes from back of modem to our switch
3. The switch then has 6 cables that run to various rooms in the house.
I took one of the google wifi pro points and unplugged my son’s hard wired computer to test this. I know his computer works via Ethernet . I tried both the lan and wan ports on the WiFi point.
The app shows the point wired but then I can’t add any other points and the mesh doesn’t work.
Are these the reason(s) it doesn’t work? We have another WiFi router connected to the same modem? A bunch of our devices are still on that network. I could remove it if necessary.
Also, the modem has its own WiFi network that has a few devices on it. Should I log in and shut that off? Or what else might I be doing incorrectly? I would love to get at least one extra wired point since we did pay to wire most of the house..
thank you!

The problem here is your secondary Wifi points are not behind your primary Wifi point and they must be for proper functioning of the system. I'd suggest changing your setup so it looks like this instead:
Modem -> Primary Wifi point -> Switch -> Secondary Wifi points (all connected to the switch)
Use the port with the 'globe' symbol to connect your modem to your primary Wifi point. It doesn't matter whether you use the 'globe' port or other port on your secondary Wifi points to hardwire those, but we recommend using the same port on all of them to avoid issues.

Thanks for this! So just to clarify the switch will connect into the primary point and then from there I plug into one of the Ethernet ports in the house? When I plug the switch into the back of the primary point I will obviously then use the lan port? (The one on the right).

Assuming the ethernet ports around your house all terminate back at a wiring closet into your switch then yes, you'd have one cable from your switch into the LAN port on your primary Wifi point.
