My iphone 8 is too old to have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio at the same time.  I tested with my wife iPhone 15 and it work perfectly.

So now is Google have a solution for old iphone?

Hello FLJ,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

Not being able to set up your devices can certainly be frustrating. Let's figure out what's going on.

Google routers cannot specifically provide a specific Wi-Fi band, so you can't use only 2.4GHz to set up your cameras.

If you suspect the Wi-Fi band is preventing you from setting up your cameras, try setting them up further away from your router. The 5GHz band has much less distance coverage than the 2.4GHz band, so you can force a 2.4GHz connection during the setup that way.

As a general question, are your cameras designed to be set up in the Google Home app, or are you trying to set them up in another app?

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Angel.

Hello Angel,

Thank you for your reply.

Before installing the google mesh router, I installed about 30 IoT devices with the Linksys router and 2 wifi cameras.

...few months ago, I replaced the Linksys router with the mesh router from Google.  I kept the same network name and password because I did not want to reconfigure each IoT devices (wall outlet and switches etc...).  Everything is working like before with the Linksys.

These devices wifi is only 2.4 GHz because some are battery operated and 2.4 GHz is less power demanding.  To configure each devices I have to set my phone to 2.4 GHz...prior to Google router, I was easy to choose 2.4 or 5 GHz on the iphone.

Now, new router does not offer to select one or the other frequency.  New iphone and new router can enable both band at the same time and the system choose the best channel.  This feature is not available on my iphone 8.

Is there a way to set my phone wifi channel to 2.4 GHz?

All IoT devices dont use 5 GHz.

I used my wife iphone 15 to configure that camera.

Hello FLJ,

Thanks for your reply.

Currently, our Google Wi-Fi devices aren't capable of choosing which band certain devices will connect to. A Google WiFi router will intelligently select the most suitable Wi-Fi band for each device, considering factors like device compatibility, security, signal strength, and proximity to mesh Wi-Fi points.. If you have a device that can only support a 2.4 GHz connection, your device should connect automatically to that band.

I appreciate your understanding.

Regards,
Angel.

...before installing the Google router, my iphone was always on 2.4 GHz because of all the smart things devices I have in my house.

After installing the Google router, my phone setting changed to 5 GHz.  I did not change the setting to 5 GHz, the Google router did.

When the IoT devices are configured, my phone can talk 5 GHz to the router and then the router talk back to the IoT devices at 2.4 GHz.  The problem is at the beginning when it is time to configure the device, the iphone and the device have to be at the 2.4 GHz to do the configuration.
