I can't get my google mesh wifi to connect to a different router after moving

We moved into our new home recently and I've tried setting up my Google Wifi with my new router.  I've followed instructions for current and older firmware to do a factory reset.  The result is a solid blue light which does not allow me to set up using the google home app like I did at the other home.

When I use the method of holding reset before plugging into power, continue holding down when I plug power in, a solid white light comes on for a few seconds, then flashing orange and I've held the stupid reset button for a minute waiting for the blinking orange to switch to blue.  It never does.  When I release the reset button, the orange stops but it changes to solid blue instead of flashing blue.

When I use the method of pressing the reset button for 10 sec with power on, it flashes blue for a minute or so before switching to solid blue.  When flashing blue, google home app can not find the device and fails setup.

Help!  This has been a great help in our old home to keep wifi spread across the home but after about 20 tries I'm ready to give up.

I'm assuming you're referring to these steps? It's worth noting that it can take quite a few minutes to change from solid blue to pulsing blue and you need to stop holding the button when the light turns sold blue?

  1. Press and hold the factory reset button for 10 seconds. The light will flash orange, then turn solid blue. When the light is solid blue, release the button.
  2. The reset process will start, which can take up to 10 minutes. Don't unplug the power cord during this process.
  3. When the factory reset is complete, the light will change from solid blue to pulsing blue to indicate it's ready for setup.
  4. After the device has been reset, the device will still appear in the Google Home or Google Wifi app. To remove the device and your previous network, follow the instructions for app factory reset.

If the firmware on your Google Wifi point is earlier than 13729.57.27:

  1. Unplug your point from the power source.
  2. Press, then hold the factory reset button on the device. While holding down the button, plug the power cable back in. Continue pressing the button for about 10 seconds. Your point will flash white, then blue. When it flashes blue, you can release the button.
  3. The point will continue flashing blue for about 45 seconds, then turn solid blue. This process can take up to 10 minutes.
  4. Wait up to 10 minutes for the device to fully reset.
  5. Once complete, your point will pulse blue to indicate it's ready for setup.
  6. After the device has been reset, the device will still appear in the Google Home or Google Wifi app. To remove the device and your previous network, follow the instructions for app factory reset.
  7. If you have reset your primary point (router), you'll need to set up a new network and add any points again using the Google Home app.

I did everything you detail - both scenarios since neither got me to a factory reset outcome.  In first scenario, the light never flashed orange and stayed steady blue - never got to pulsing blue light even though we waited hours.  In second scenario, I would get a solid white light for about 10 secs, then orange and even tho I kept holding down the button, it just stayed solid orange.  When after 2-3 minutes I released the button, it would stay solid blue for hours, never got a a pulsing blue light.  I did go through removing my prior home and device and set up a new home in the google home app.  It worked perfectly in the old house.  I am disappointed that nothing seems to get this to factory reset completely?!?!

In that case, I'd recommend that you contact the Google Nest support team.

  1. Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
  2. Select an appropriate product or category, type a brief description of the issue, then click Next.
  3. Click Other, then click Next step.
  4. In the Resources section, click Next step.
  5. Choose to get a phone call, call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.
