Mesh Test claims “great” connection, but WiFi speed test from 3rd party app say different?

I have gigabyte internet to router (about 920 on my last test standing next to my Verizon Fios router), with 3 Google WiFi Pro nodes.

The Google WiFi Pro nodes are situated throughout my house.  Standing next to each of them and running the Google Home speed test confirms the speed is almost the same as standing next to my router.

Running a mesh test, the results/ status for each node is “Great”.

However my WiFi is terrible.

When standing no farther than 2-3ft away from each Google WiFi Pro node, and running a speed test on my IPhone 13 Pro I get approx 128 - 205mbs (except on the node closest to the router - that I get much better speed test results).   I’ve run the test several times, next to each node, same results, using different speed testing apps.

I’m using Fing and WiFi Analyzer apps, and both come back with similar results.?

My question / issue - if the mesh test via google home app state “great”, why then is my WiFi so slow ?

Hey @Jtondera .

The Mesh Test tests the connection between the main router and the points and not Wifi speed. Also, having the points set up with a hardwired connection instead of Wifi will produce better speeds.

Below are some articles to help troubleshoot the cause and help to resolve:

Troubleshoot slow internet on Google Nest Wifi or Google Wifi

Hardwire Wifi devices with Ethernet

That answers my question then.
I’ll work on hardwiring the nodes.

thanks for the help!
