Nest Routeur - add a second nest routeur

Aspen-FR

Hello,

I have a nest routeur installed, it is wired to my modem, also installed a nest access point. For some reason (availability of an Ethernet port on the Nest routeur), I want to install a second Nest Routeur, but to use it as an access point, impossible to do so.

The most funny thing is I already did it in another home and it works pefectly, same configuration.

But impossible to reproduce it.

Someone has a solution ?

Thank you for your help,

Stephane

Hello to all,

First thank you for trying to help.

I finally managed to connect everything, But the first thing I did was to disconnect and to factory reset all nest access points and routers and the follow the google home procedure.

I used olavrb method :

But a workaround is to connect the 2nd to the primary by cable, from primary LAN to 2nd WAN. After successfull setup, remove the ethernet cable and place the 2nd point where you want it.

And all works now.

To be sincere, as I did this procedure before and it didn't help, I don't know why now it works, but as always router, internet, computing... are very versatile unless you are a very competent computer guy, which I'm not and also that is the reason why I buy Google Nest hardware, simple to setup. So, let's say that it is simple to setup and use, till the moment when you have a problem or you want to go a bit offroad. Thank you all,

Stephane

Hello,

All is in order now, thank you all for your help, As a result, I can sum up like that, there is no problem to create your wifi network from scratch. But if later on you want to add new router, the best solution is to reset all your nest wifi router and set everything up again. Stephane

Where does it fail for you?

Is the 2nd Nest Wifi router completely new, or have you used it before? If the last, make sure it's factory reset before trying again.

Are all pucks bought for the same region/ country? Mixing US and EU for instalce, won't work.

Hello,

First thank you for your answer. It is factory reseted. Then I try to configure it through Google Home. And it identify it as a routeur, which it is, and if I carry on the process, it asks to plug it to the modem through Ethernet, and then configure it as a routeur, no way to force it to configure it as an access point.

I don't see how to force it.

You're not supposed to plug the 2nd one to the modem too, but to the LAN port on the primary one. 🙂

Hello. Thank you for your answer. I never plug the second one to the modem. What I need is to have the second one wireless. No ethernet cable. It is funny to see that something very simple and obvious is not explained clearly. We know it works. I did it before but unable to reproduce. And nowhere I can find a clear procedure. I mean it is google. It's not a small town corner shop. We receive almost every week 200 pages of new legal user conditions for their services. But when it comes to hardware there is more water on Mars than words on their user manual....😀

Ah, I read it as you connected the 2nd one to the modem too.

Here is the general set up guide:

But a workaround is to connect the 2nd to the primary by cable, from primary LAN to 2nd WAN. After successfull setup, remove the ethernet cable and place the 2nd point where you want it.
