I recently brought a Google Nest WiFi system (Router & 2 x AP but NOT a Pro system) home from USA. Thankfully the power supplies accept 120 - 240 volt so all I needed to do was twist the pins a little so it can plug into an Australian power point. ( Outlet in US speak.)
But very disapointed that it wil not work when connected directly to my NBN modem. I understand that's because iiNet requires VLAN tagging & Google won't support this. ( Despite saying they do.)
Currently working OK pluged into a LAN point on the TP-Link router (Provided by iiNet) which I will soon put into bridge mode but it seems crazy that Google cannot properly support VLAN. Or maybe I'm doing something else wrong? There are very very few options to set in the Google Home app which makes it easy to get started but the lack of VLAN management is a PITA...
Happy to listen to any advice.
Thanks @GrahamB , can't offer anything other than my experience with my current Google WiFi setup. It's plugged directly into the NBN FTTP NTD that's on the wall in the garage and works great. My ISP is Aussie Broadband, maybe they have things setup differently.
@GrahamB I have my Google Wifi pluuged directly into the NBN FTTP modem in my garage also and it works fine. I'm with Superloop. But also want to know when/and if the Google WIFI Pro will be available in Australia. I would like to upgrade as well I dont really want to purchase the Google Nest Wifi when I know that its older tech
Thanks for your interest in purchasing our newest product, Nest Wifi Pro. We don’t have news about its release date in Australia. Keep an eye on the Google Nest Community page and our social media channels for any updates.
Yes, I do need assistance. I need a definitive answer of when Google will release the WifI Pro in Australia. Currently using Google WiFi which is ending support in Jan 2023. If I'm going to upgrade my Mesh network, I'd prefer to do so with latest technology, ie; WiFi 6.
If I can't get a definitive answer, then I'll have to consider spending my money elsewhere.
As of now we don't have the launch info for Australia. When that gets announced, it will show up on the Google social media channels, on our community blog, and most likely here on the forums. I'm sure there are many looking for news on that, so hopefully we get word some time soon.
Thanks for getting back to us. The Google Wifi is not yet ending support in January of 2023, its the Google OnHub that is ending in support.
Keep an eye on the Google Nest Community page and our social media channels for any updates for availability of the Nest Wifi Pro in your country as we currently don't have any news for release for Australia.
If you're looking to upgrade by that point, then yes, as of right now it appears that the Nest WiFi Pro won't be available quite yet. Your OnHub devices will continue to function and provide a wireless signal, you just won't be able to manage them through the app any longer. I know that's not an ideal situation, so I understand if you need to look elsewhere for a solution.
We don’t have news regarding a specific availability date for Nest Wifi Pro in Australia. We’ll announce it in our social media channels and our Google Nest Community page once it’s available.
Welcome to my world.
I've just started to transition to Amazon from my previous google house. The doorbell and security cameras will go whilst I gradually transition over the Google home minis and the one big home over time. The customer service team are treated like mushrooms at the moment and can't help you. I saw the light and realised google just doesn't want to support Australian and has taken an active decision to not provide details of their plans for product pipeline for Australia. I was told the same over the chats. If you need to know when we (google) will be releasing 6 to make a decision on a purchase, google advised me to go with a competitor in Australia. I've just changed to fire stick and really enjoying the products as the Chromecasts are phased out around my home.
We understand that you’d like to get an update regarding availability of the Nest Wifi Pro in Australia. As of the moment, we don’t have news to share. Rest assured that we’ll post updates in our social media channels and Google Nest Community page as soon as we have more details.
Still no news? Wifi 7 is coming out later this year or early next year. Are you waiting for that to be out the releasing old tech to Australia? That's just ridiculous.
Can you at least confirm if the wifi pro will work in Australia just fine if I import it?
Astonishing Google won’t bring the Nest Wifi Pro to Australia. We have a Google house; cameras, speakers, hubs and wifi.
After waiting almost a year for the Nest Wifi Pro, we’ve given Google until the end of this year, or we’re completely churning away from the brand.
No explanation, let alone a reasonable one, has been given to us in terms of why there has been such a release delay. It is inexplicable.
Hi All, Is there any commitment at all that this product is coming to Australia? Or is this just a response that we will let you know if we decide to sell the product in Australia. I like the product because it has subscription free features that Amazon and Orbi don't, but I also don't want to buy the current offering which is based on the wifi 5 spec which came out in 2008.
