Nest WiFi Pro wired connection is about 10% of what it was on Nest WiFi

So, my WiFi Pro arrived today and I was really excited to get it setup. I set everything up using the Google Home app and downloaded the updates. I have a fiber gigabit connection from my provider and their most recent modem. My wired connections are pegged to about 90Mbps. My Nest WiFi (non Pro) was getting 900+Mbps wired.

My troubleshooting has been the following:

  • Restart the Nest WiFi Pro network
  • Restart the modem
  • Restart all switches
  • Reboot the hard wired computers

My Nest WiFi Pro is in DHCP WAN mode and connected directly to the 10Gbps ethernet port on my modem. I am using a mix of CAT 5 and CAT 6 cabling and my switches are all gigabit or higher.

Plugging the old Nest WiFi (non Pro) back in yields 900+Mbps on wired connections.

I think something is wrong

I'm also seeing slowness issues. My wired speeds cut in half and my speed test are less than 200mb. My older router would give 980 mb down.

I really hoped the new update would resolve issues but no luck.

Any news on firmware update for Nest WiFi and WiFi Pro to resolve these issues?

not yet, the latest firmware makes the problem much less severe. It's tolerable comparing to when it was first released.

  • Google Home app speed test is still not correct, however, actual speed is fine
  • occasional video call jitters, better than before but still happens once a while
  • QoS make video call or streaming unusable, I just turned off the QoS for now.

want to add another observations

  • on computer, speed test seems to be fine getting full speed 300/100
  • on all my ios devices, getting merely 10% of the full bandwidth. 25/15. I had to RESTART NETWORK ofr the Nest wifi Pro in Google Home app in order to get full speed back on those devices.

that

I echo everything Darth_Vader said. My signal is strong; my Google Home is not reading the correct speed due to a software bug. I did not return my Nest Pro and am satisfied for now. BTW there is a version of the new Google Home app. I hope it comes bug-free 🤣.

To be clear, for all devices, speed test were done via 3rd party speedtest apps, not Google Home.

Therefore, there's still more problem than just the Google Home app, I had to restart the network in order for the iOS devices to get full speed. They were running super slow

I’m seeing similar issues that other people are reporting. When I hook up my old nest Wi-Fi points I get about 900 Mbits and on the Nest Pro I get about half of that so I’m not as slow as everybody else is saying.

very disappointing ☹️

Yes. that's what we see happening.

I've just setup my network. I have 3 points connected. My main router is connected to a switch that runs to cables throughout house. My old system I was getting 800 plus download. I have a gig connection from spectrum. My old router I would get 1100 plus doing a speed test in the routers app. I am only getting half speed in the home app usually about 507. Is there a setting I need to change? My true speed test was about 300 on my computer. My 6e phone on wireless gets 600-800 download. Do I have a setting wrong? I also have disconnected switch and ran from router to computer to test

What exact switch? Some switches have conflicting features that can cause trouble with Nest Wifi, such as loop detection / STP functionality.

By "main router", do you mean the primary/ main/ master Nest Wifi Pro unit? If no, it sounds like you run double NAT / two routers. Which can cause random problems and speed degredation.

For the Wi-Fi on Nest Wifi Pro, have you enabled WPA3? It's required for using 6E / 6ghz.

Hi everyone,

@olavrb, thanks for the help.
@jkiser, thanks for flagging reduced internet speeds on Nest Wifi Pro routers. The issue appears to be affecting a small number of users.
If you're also experiencing this behavior, feel free to add your report in the comments below and stay tuned to this community thread for updates.

Best,

Mel

It is not a small number of users having this issue, MANY are reporting it in the community.

I get gigabit internet from Spectrum. I used to have a Nest WiFi, and the app would tell me I was getting between 500 and 800 megabits per second download speed. Last week I upgraded to the Nest WiFi Pro, and ever since then every speed test I have run from the Google Home app tells me I am only getting 200-300 Megabits. So I called Spectrum, and they came out. They tested the speed directly from the modem, and it was 958 megabits. Then they plugged in the Nest WiFi Pro router and tested the speed hardwired into the router, and the speed was 955 megabits. But then I ran the speed test from the Google Home app again, and the speed according to the app is 302 megabits? So what the heck is going on? Is the Google Home app lying to me? How am I supposed to know what speed I am actually getting?

Hi all,

Sorry to hear you're still seeing slow speeds after the firmware update for your Nest Wifi Pro. Our teams are aware of an issue where the Google Home app built-in internet speed test results may be lower than expected for internet connection speeds faster than 500 Mbps. We're working on a fix to be rolled out in an upcoming software release-- please stay tuned to this thread for updates. We'll continue to monitor the comments and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers.

With that in mind, the speed test issue does not impact actual system performance. If you have an internet connection with speeds greater than 500 Mbps, we suggest using an alternate speed test app from your phone or computer.

Best,

Mel

Hi Mel,

I just want to emphasize the speed issue is not limited to the Home App. The actual speed sometimes is limited on some devices until I RESTART NETWORK. It's random, I can't find a specific pattern to reproduce it but it does happen.

Additionally, I had to turn off all prefer activities settings, otherwise it's worse.

I have GB internet through spectrum cable. Modem is a new motorola MB8611. With previous router i had over 800mps down and over 40 up.

With the new nest wifi pro im getting 300 down and 30 up. Tried a different modem with the same results. Tried the older ecco router and the speeds were back. I really want this new nest router to work. Ant suggestions

Uggh....there have been reports and Google has acknowledged a "small number" of users that have had this type of impact. I suspect it's more than a small number of users though. Here is where I read about this:

Hey all,

Can you run a quick test for me? Can you do a speedtest using the Home app and then compare that to a speedtest on another service, such as https://goo.gle/3EY4nXh;

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, below are my speed test results.

  • From my Nest Wifi Pro Router using the Home app: 169d/93u
  • From my PC using WiFi (speedtest.net) (Strong Signal): 31d/.89u
  • From my PC using wired connection (speedtest.net): 72d/178u

I actually wanted to switch my PC from a faulty 1Gbps wired connection to a 6e wireless but, as you can see from the above results, the performance has significantly decreased.

Thanks for getting those, JeffinKY. Did you run that using https://goo.gle/2QXCbe1? How does it compare from running the speed test in the Home app?

Thanks,

Jeff

In my results, "From my PC" = using speedtest.net (your link), "From my Nest Wifi Pro Router using the Home app" = using the home app.

Yep. Renounce Google! And renounce work from home! 🤣

Hi

i have a simple question - if I buy 3 pack Nest Wi-Fi pro 6e, can you use two in my house and one independently in another house (parents house) ?

You will need to supply another ethernet cable but yes. They are all identical and have the same capabilities.

Unfortunately wifi pro  slows down your speed significantly, Google confirmed this is a global problem, but no fix insight , online support gave me the option to return it.

This has not affected everyone and is mostly related to PPPoE connections. I have not had any reduction in speeds since going to the Nest Wifi Pro.

Hey folks,

We appreciate your help here, @PatrickP_Viking and @MetalGlacier.
@Amit28, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Hi there!

I upgraded to the Google Nest Wifi Pro a few weeks ago and it has been great so far. The main issue I run into is that my office PC will only have about 10 MBPS down until I disconnect the PC from the WIFI and reconnect. Once I do this, the speeds resume to 150 - 350 MBPS down with no issues. Upload speeds are a static 30 MBPS consistently.

The PC is a desktop and there is a Nest Wifi Pro Point in the same office as the PC. All points in the home show a great connection to the mesh network. I have an 1 GBPS plan from my ISP.

Any ideas as to what could be happening?

Thanks for the help!

- Tyler

Having the same issues, at least this is a quicker fix than resetting the whole wifi system like I was doing before. Have the updated firmware in the US and this system has been terrible so far. I preordered but am now out of the 15-day return period. Ridiculous.

I'm having the same issue, I have a ton of Google devices at my airbnb's and they are just so full of problems, I really wish I would have picked a different ecosystem. This mesh at my personal house is no exception....exact same stats and situation as OP.

Anyone else having slower download speeds with new Google wifi pro versus legacy Google mesh network. Mesh test is good. Can't figure it out
