Nest Wifi Point New Zealand

mcnearna

I've purchased a stand alone nest router in New Zealand and need a wifi point to expand wifi. I cannot buy individual nest wifi points in New Zealand (Google aren't selling here for some reason). The only option I've being given is to purchase another nest router. Aside from the router not having the wifi point features (voice etc.), it also costs more. Any ideas how to acquire a nest wifi point in New Zealand that is regionally compatible?

The Nest WiFi Router and Point products are supported for use in only these regions: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States (except Puerto Rico). I don't know what the regulatory requirements look like in New Zealand, but from what I can find after a quick search, they are similar to Australia for the two 5GHz channels that might matter. So, you may be able to get a Nest WiFi Point unit from Australia, but I would make sure that's the region your existing Nest WiFi Router unit was made for to ensure compatibility, since different regions may be using different channels. If your Nest WiFi Router unit was originally intended for use in Europe, Japan or Singapore, for example, it may not work with a unit made for the U.S. (for example). In general, I would advise buying equipment that is supported for your region, since you will have trouble getting technical support if you run into trouble.

Hi Jeff. It would be a stretch to call this a solution. More so a bunch of unqualified suggestions (which I do appreciate the time). Ideally, it’d be nice if google sold the Wi-Fi points that belong with the nest router. I’ve purchase a second router to create a Wi-Fi point and miss the features of the nest Wi-Fi point advertised as part of google nest mesh system.

mcnearna,

Yeah, I realize it's not ideal to have only some products available. I can't speak to why it's that way in certain markets. It could be a local regulation thing, it could be Google policy, or it could be some other factor entirely. I would hope that over time more products become available for sale in your market which would definitely resolve things. I personally just don't have access to the reasoning for those things or to timelines for if and when things might change there. I'm sorry I don't have more to provide in that regard.

Thanks.
