Nest Wifi Pro issues when Roku is being used, causes chromebook problems

RMDNFM

I recently got a Google Nest Wifi Pro, it was an upgrade from the Nest Wifi I previously had.      Problem is when I turn the TV on and am streaming via Roku, my chromebook struggles to do basic web browsing.  It doesnt want to connect to pages, takes forever or just flat out wont connect or load images.  But as soon as I turn the Roku off it works flawlessly.  My phone and other internet devices work fine.  What gives?

Getting constantly 920-940 Mbps download speed on my google home app when testing the network.

Hello @RMDNFM

Diagnosing issues like this can be challenging. Can I ask if you happen to have a sound bar connected to your TV? If you do, it may support a wireless connection to a subwoofer or surround speakers that uses the same spectrum as the 5GHz WiFi band on your Nest WiFi Pro system. Since this wireless audio isn't using WiFi, it is interference at a low level. Even when both systems are following the rules for this spectrum, this kind of thing can still happen – and it can cause problems. If you do have something like this, it likely only starts transmitting when the TV is on. As for why your phone works better, it may just do a better job of switching to another band (2.4GHz or, theoretically, 6GHz) to avoid the interference while the Chromebook may stay on 5GHz (and struggle). This interference issue should be most problematic closer to the soundbar itself (again, if that is the issue), so more distant internet devices may not be impacted much.

If you don't have a soundbar (or something like that, possibly built in to the TV itself), then I'm not sure what to suggest – right now, that's my best guess.

I do have a soundbar that supports and connects to rear wireless speakers.  Sometimes I use it and other times I dont.  I will test it out today and see if it causes the problems or not.

So far so good.  Things are working well with soundbar off.

Was thinking of modem router and modem to different room to see if it would help as they are right beside soundbar...so that I can use soundbar and Chromebook at same time

Hi there,

Thanks for the update. Getting another modem router may (or may not) cause double NAT issues. But for your reference, you can visit the article about Fix double NAT when two routers run at the same time.

Kind regards,
Alex
