Nest Wifi Pro setup w/ wired backhaul issues & questions

Just moved to a new place and bought 3-pack of Nest Wifi pro to setup mesh.

The home is wired with ethernet within the walls, connected to this: https://www.hubbell.com/wiringdevice-kellems/en/products/net-select-module-cat5e-8-port-data/p/21891...

I have Bell Fibe with the Gigahub and the current setup is:  Fiber into the Bell Gigahub Modem, 2 connections into the Data Module (above link), 1 into a Nest Wifi Pro router and 1 wired into my PC.  The 2 connections into the data module are then also connected to a Nest Wifi Pro router.

I'm able to setup the Nest Wifi Pro on either the Router connected to the Modem (and the other 2 wont work, fast blink yellow) OR the 2 connected to the Data Module (and the 1 connected to the modem, wont work).

I'm not sure whats cause it to not work property, though I assume the fact that there are some routers direct and others that are through the data module, its not working as it should.

Now, I could technically connect the single Router thats connected to the modem, into another connection of the data module, however the positioning of that connection isn't preferred.  I've tried connecting them all at one location and then dispersing them accordingly, but the result is as mentioned above.

Help!  I'm not sure what to do to set it up appropriately.  Thank you.

PS - As I might be purchasing home security cameras, if I were to buy a POE switch, how would that help/make things complicated?

Hi @AlphaJeun

I understand your frustration setting up your Nest Wifi Pro mesh system with your Bell Fibe Gigahub and wired ethernet. It sounds like you've tried several configurations, but you're encountering issues with some Nest Wifi Pro routers not working properly. Let's see if we can get things working together!

Possible Cause:

You're right, having some routers connected directly and others through the data module might be causing conflicts. Mesh networks typically prefer a single, unified network backbone.

Solutions:

  • Direct Connection to Gigahub: Try connecting just one Nest Wifi Pro directly to the Gigahub modem using an ethernet cable. Then, configure the remaining two routers as points in the Google Home app. This creates a daisy-chain mesh network.
  • Bridge Mode for Gigahub (if possible): While Bell doesn't officially support Bridge Mode on the Gigahub, some users report success with it. This would essentially turn the Gigahub into a simple modem, allowing your Nest Wifi Pro to act as the router and manage the entire network. Important: Check with Bell support before attempting this as it might impact other services.

Security Cameras and PoE Switch:

A PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch can be a great addition for security cameras. It simplifies the setup by providing both data and power to the cameras through a single ethernet cable. However, it adds another layer to your network configuration.

Recommendation:

Let's focus on getting your Nest Wifi Pro mesh working first. Once that's established, we can discuss how a PoE switch would integrate with your network for future security cameras.

Next Steps:

Try the suggested solutions above. If you're still encountering issues, feel free to reply with more details, and we can explore further troubleshooting steps or contact Nest support for advanced assistance.

Best regards,

Josh
