Nest Wifi hard capped download at 100 MBPS, Upload not capped

Problem: Nest wifi is hard capped at 100mbps down, with 460 upload, despite service being 500/500.

Network layout:

Frontier Fios Fiber cable comes from underground into a box. which then splices to a smaller fiberoptic cable, which then runs up the wall, through the wall, through the attic, down the inside of the garage directly to the new style ONT Model FOX222. From the ONT I have a Cat5e cable running through the attic to the living room which goes through a wall port then a patch cable to my Nest wifi unit. From there I have various hard wire ethernet runs via a Netgear switch that runs 10 ports at 1000/1000. Most smart devices run on wifi, select devices get a ethernet (computer, playstation, Shield, PiHole etc.)

Tests performed.

  1. Speed test on Computer & through the Google home app. Both yeilding similar results at 100/500.

  2. Relocated Nest wifi next to ONT, used a patch cable, elimnating my network cables from the equation. Ran a speed test through the app (which runs on the nest and reports the data to the phone so wifi isnt an issue). Results the same at 100/500

  3. Connected a old Fios Quantum router in the living room using existing Cat5e in my house. Speed tested network results 1 ping 500/500 (exact speeds were like 550/550 ish).

  4. I have Factory Reset the Nest wifi unit, renaming my SSD back to the original name and password. Same results 100/500. (I say 100/500, but its usually something like 3 ping).

Given these 4 tests, I have successfully tracked down my issue to the Nest wifi, on the account that using a different modem eliminates the issue, as well as using the nest via patch Cat6 cable from ONT to Nest does not fix the issue. Does anyone know of a way to fix this hard cap issue?

Problem solved.  It randomly started working.  Perhaps Frontier was slow to update?

I think there is some automagic QoS happening behind the scenes, and sometimes it takes some time for it to figure out the WAN speed and act accordingly.

Also, with those speeds it makes sense to disable all preferred activities. Something to try if you experience similar issues/ throttling later.

I don't work for Google.
