Nest access point vs Google wifi router as access point

I have a nest wifi setup with a nest router (basement) and one nest AP(first floor) to which I added a Google wifi router (second floor) as AP.

Based on great advice in this forum 🙏 I solved a weak AP connection to the second floor by swapping the first floor nest AP with a nest router as AP.

I now have a spare nest wifi AP.   Is there any advantage to replacing the Google wifi with the nest AP (I don't need the ethernet ports)?

We have a small house so I don't see much benefit of adding an extra AP.   Anything interesting I could do with a spare Google router or nest AP (with limited networking knowledge)?

Grateful for your advice! 🙏

Hi Imcdonald,

Thanks for posting. I understand that you want to know if you get any advantage from replacing the Google WiFi with a Nest access point. Don't worry; help is here. Let me tell you that, since your home is small and you don't need the Ethernet ports, upgrading from Google Wi-Fi to the Nest access point likely won't make a big difference. They both should provide solid coverage.

Here's a breakdown of whether to use the spare Nest access point or keep the Google Wi-Fi:

  • May offer slightly better performance within the Nest Wi-Fi ecosystem.
  • Works seamlessly with your existing Nest Wi-Fi system.
  • Google Nest Wifi can handle up to 2.2 Gbps, while Google Wifi can handle up to 1.2 Gbps.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Jenny
