Nest wifi randomly going offline

Sydtriman
Community Member

For the past week my Google nest Wi-Fi go randomly off-line. There have been absolutely no other changes in my network or environment that could cause this. I’ve had no issues prior to this.

I can see a couple of posts in the forum of a similar vein, has anybody been able to solve this issue? Is it a firmware problem?

I’ve done a full factory reset which hasn’t helped, and in fact seems to have made it worse.

Setup: Router (firmware 13729.57.27) and 2 points (firmware 1.54.267572)

any ideas?

I have the same problem also.  I've had my Nest wifi and Google wifi for almost 2 years without any problems and now I have them daily.  When plugged in with Ethernet cable, internet is fine.  This problem seems random. Lasts 5 to 10 min then spontaneously resolves without intervention.  Another forum suggested too many wifi points and they were causing interference.  I've just reduced mine from 5 to 4.  Too soon to tell if that helps.

Hey, Sydtriman.

Thanks for the update. Sorry that you're still dealing with that issue. I unfortunately don't have any new updates to share right now, but I wanted to keep in touch to let you know it's still being looked at internally. I'll keep things updated as I find out more.

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Do you have an update on this issue?  I have sent feedback multiple times.  The problem becomes worse and my gen 1 wifi routers go offline multiple times a day.  I can't work with an unstable router.  We need a fix asap.  Thank you!

I have this problem also!! DAILY SEVERAL TIMES DAILY!! I will continue to make bad google reviews until this problem is fixed!! Too much wasted time since September and your useless updates!

They are working on it, and have been on the case for 4 months now. I'm sure a fix is imminent.

😂

...and if you believe that, I've got some beachfront property to sell you in Arizona...

I hope this will come soon indeed. On my side, Google support gave me no indication about that ...

Curious why a firmware rollback was never attempted. I feel my issue started some time after the Nov update and have progressively gotten worse.

Because the firmware rollout was in response to losing a patent lawsuit. They had to push the firmware to remove the infringing technology. They legally can not revert. This never would have been an issue had they not decided to integrate Google Assistant Speakers into their WiFi devices. They lost a patent lawsuit regarding the speakers to Sonus. They had to strip the offending code from their devices. Had they never pushed the speakers into WiFi, Google WiFi would still be great.

If this is the case can they not disable that all together?  I want stable, reliable wifi and could care less about talking to my wifi point.  Google devices are a dime a dozen these days.  I am ready to jump ship...looking at Netgear mesh now.

Good one.  I spent two wastes hours on the phone talking with…a “specialist”

LOL.  so true!!  After several weeks of resetting and doing a whole system restart I gave up and bought another mesh (TP-Link deco AX-3000).  I would have thought this planned obsolescence with their new wifi products, but if so they were stupid by not being more transparent and offering discounts to dedicated users.  This is not the highest end TP-Link but gives better coverage and is working perfectly without me replacing my modem -- so definitly the Google router was the problem.  It appears routers only last 3-5 years.  I also like that the TP-Link does not force 5G but automatically does 2.4 and 5G, to better work with my non-5G devices (like cameras, light switches, etc).  I am glad I bit the bullet and bought a new system as I have no more drops when it was several times a day with Google.  Google seems to be making lots of changes, and not for the better -- google search is becoming unusable with their sponsored crap given priority, especially ads, and putting in so many things that do not match the search terms.  I am not happy with Google FI either, but so far my other Google devices are ok.

I too am getting frustrated ….and such an expensive system, and seemingly well designed, except for it going off line.

If you were serious, my apologies. But otherwise, hilarious. "Well designed in theory, other than the fact that it doesn't actually work. "

I am also having this issue, it only seems to be affecting my mesh point? Any news on fixes yet? Or maybe it's time for yet another factory reset.... Ugh.

Ever since nest “migrated “ with google all I’ve had is problems. Offline several times a day…and still paying full price for something that is worthless!! Very upset that we have cameras we cannot utilize because they are offline most the time!!!

Still having issues JEFF.  Google needs to make good on this.

Yeah. Apparently this has never been solved.

At promising as every Google product ever released..they have almost all failed in their attempts.

They should probably just stick to search and selling your data.

Awful. Awful products

I have the same issue!

Good afternoon, I have the same issue last 3 years and my conclusion is Google nest Wifi is a trash. Also my Nest Displays has the same issue, separated from the Wifi.

Same here - Nest router + 1 nest point and 3 google points and the Internet goes out for several minutes, randomly several times each day.  Firmware is up to date.  Tried manufacture resets and, agree with other poster, I think that made the issue worse.

I had the same problem I updated my Cat cable to a cat 6 so far no problems

Hi, Sydtriman.

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your network going offline. I'm sure this is frustrating to deal with.

So there is a known issue here and we are actually rolling out firmware updates to WiFi devices now. The update is hitting devices as we speak, and your Nest WiFi will automatically update soon.

In the meantime, you can actually share feedback directly with our teams which will help us more rapidly develop fixes for these sorts of issues. To do that, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Feedback and then tap the type of device you'd like to submit feedback for.
  4. To display available emails, in the "From:" section, tap the arrow on the right. Select your email address.
  5. In the feedback summary, write a brief description of your issue.
  6. Be sure to check the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  7. To submit feedback, at the top right corner, tap Send .

I'll keep things updated as I learn more. Thanks.

Thanks Jeff

I have previously sent feedback and I am also keeping an eye on the firmware version. As of yet there hasn’t been any updates. Regrettably it is still intermittently going offline. ☹️

Hi, all.

I don't have any updates yet, but I am speaking with the internal teams later today. I'm hoping we have more then, but I will definitely let you all know when there's more to report.

Thanks.

Thank you!

it’s amazing, I’ve had no drops for a week and then all of a sudden it happened again yesterday and have had at least 3 (that I saw, they don’t always reflect in the history). Absolutely nothing else has. Hanged in the network.  Very odd.

I don’t believe you or Google.

The funny thing is that this was October. He posted something similar in September. And November. And December. And January. And just recently...

yes and everyone should call him out,

okay, this is 5-2022, why isn’t this problem fixed?  I spent all this money to purchase this Wi-Fi nest system and now my Wi-Fi points an$ router goes off line continuously therefore my other devises I am so sick of this system. I have tried everything.  Sick and tired, sick and tired. I want my money back for this junk

Hi there,

I just bought the nest wifi 15 days back (didn't look into this thread earlier). I'm facing this issue of random drops. My webex calls drop and it takes several minutes. In 2022, we all work from home, and unreliable wifi hampers getting jobs done at the workplace. is there any way to get a refund for these wifi devices.

Look for any other device on your network that could have DHCP active. Only your nest wifi router can assign ip addresses. I had a device plugged in that was causing the issues I was having. Making sure my Nest Wifi Router was the only thing running DHCP services seems to have solved the problem at least for now.

Same here - Nest router + 3 nest  points and the Internet goes out for several minutes, randomly several times each day.  Firmware is up to date.  Tried factory resets and, agree  that the issue has become worse.

You all can't possibly still be 'working' on this and not have diagnosed and resolved the issue... what is going on at the 'King of Tech' that has you all stumped? This is horrendous customer care, especially in thsi day and age of WFH...come on Google, get it together!!!

As of July 7th the issue is just getting worse.  My network is so unreliable now that I am considering buying another brand.  How can a company as big as Google not fix an obvious ongoing issue with users of its products? I have Nest Wi-Fi with 2 router units (one used as router and one as a point) and 3 points. All randomly go offline and I have constant speed issues.  If I am told to do a factory reset one more time I am going to enjoy destroying each of them with a sledgehammer.  I would have much rather had network port on each point instead of google assistant and speaker.  Very disappointed and dissatisfied with a company I used to love.  BTW everything worked fine with previous Google Wi-Fi and the current Nest system until after the Sonos lawsuit and code changes it required.  If that is the cause, should Google not be liable to fix or replace these units?

It really is odd that the problem devolves and worsens over time, but that appears to be the trajectory for everyone, whether it started last summer or this summer.

I replaced mine with Netgear last December after losing multiple Zoom client calls in a day and haven't had a single lost call since then. It was odd, though. I'd lose a call a week, then a call a day, then the last straw was 3 calls in less than 4 hours.

I forget the numbers, but for grins, I connected my dog's wireless tracking collar to the Google wifi. It alerts me every time it loses connectivity. At the end, there were dozens of lost connections per day. The Google equipment now sits in my basement in a box. Couldn't in good conscience sell it, was too late to return it. If it is ever fixed, which looks increasingly unlikely, I'll give it to my son.

Could not agree more. This calls for a Class Action Suit. Google, are you listening?

So 10 months later and it is only getting worse?  Let me ask you this....how do I contact Google's legal department?  I am going in search of a good attorney that specializes in class action lawsuits and I think I know where to find quite a few people that would be interested in joining in on a class action suit...

I am in and I have case numbers and other documentation to bring to the table.

Please send through an update if you get anywhere with this path, the last year on this system has been a nightmare
