Nest wifi slow speed requires daily restart of the newtwork.

Have a normal ISP router connected to Nest router + 2 pucks, everything works fine but the internet speed goes slow every day and i need to restart the network on Home app. It looks just by google this topic, that it is a known issue, but still don't see any solution from the google support team. Can you please let me know how to fix this or is being looked at by google , or what's the situation?

Hey, LuisLeitao.

Sorry about the speed issues you're seeing on the network. I imagine that's quite frustrating. The speed issue has been reported by several users and it is something we're looking into right now internally. I do have a couple of things for you to check real fast.

  • Do you have any preferred activities set up in the Home app? If so, try removing any that are there.
  • Do you have IPv6 enabled in the WiFi settings in the Home app? If so, try disabling that for now.
  • If you run a speed test, prioritize a device, and run it again, do you notice any change in performance?

Take a look at those things and it can help us start narrowing down a cause. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi Jeff,

1. I have no preferred activities selected, and IPv6 disabled.

2. Changing prioritization on a device and running a speedtest doesn't show any improvement.

I called google support but they told me in order to help I'll need to set my modem to bridge mode to be sure we are not in the presence of double NAT issues.

But when I select the option on my modem to enable bridge mode I lost internet and also access to the router IP, what left me with the only option to factory reset my modem and that was hours lost in reconfig everything.

If we need to enable bridge mode, google will have to help the customers with more details on how exactly to do that? do we need to set any port forwarding? do we need static IP on nest router?

I doubt double NAT justify all this speed issues but...

please any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Luis

Hey, LuisLeitao.

We have an article here on enabling bridge mode and the steps you need to take. You can read that here: https://bit.ly/3nQiHqK.

If you get caught up on any of the steps or things aren't going as expected, let me know.

Thanks,
