Nest wifi working, but Google Home says it's offline

I've just set up a nest wifi router + 1 point and it's connecting to the internet.

However, when I check the Google Home app, it states that the router is offline.

I know it's not, because I connected wifi only devices to it, and they are accessing the web with no issues.

Whar could be happening here? I haven't found any posts that explain how to fix this on Google Home.

To provide more context, the router is connected to a modem that doesn't have a router built in, so it's not a conflict situation. I can access the internet, but I can't connect some devices to Google Home because of this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Am seeing the same with a factory reset router install. See my post just prior to yours (no fix - sorry). Odd eh...

It makes no sense! I deleted my home, then uninstalled Google home and reinstalled it. That helped with the modem recognizing the new nest wifi, but then showing it offline. Has to reinstall all devices, and they all access the internet, but Google home still says wifi is offline. Wth!!

As an update, I contacted Google Wifi support, and they stated that they are aware of this issue with Google Home and are "working on it." NEW UPDATE: today I checked the app and everything is looking good now. It fixed itself -- or their dev team figured out the issue and pushed an update.

Thanks for sending this! I actually tried resetting everything a couple of times, but the Google Home app was still showing wifi as offline. Their support stated that they were aware of this issue, and that they were working on a fix.

They suggested that if I didn't want to wait for the fix (since they had no ETA), I could do a factory reset of the nest wifi, but honestly, it was going to be too much of a hassle to have to reconfigure everything, so I decided to wait a few more days.

As of this morning, though, the issue fixed itself, or Google pushed an update to the Google Home app. Either/or, it's not happening anymore. Now my wifi connection finally shows online. I hope it's working for everyone else now too!

Mine has been stable since.
I note that the Google Nest router software changed since April 22
Current software I am running is;

  • Google Home App: 2.50.105
  • Nest Router (H2D): 14150.43.81 <-----
  • WiFi Point (H2E): 1.54.294928
  • (Gen 1) Google WAP (AC-1304): 14150.43.81

I did factory reset of Nest Router and WiFi points, odd only lost IP reservations so minimal config change.

My issue has never been the connection. The router and the 1 point are connecting to the internet and to the devices, so everything is working. The issue was with the Google Home app, which was showing the internet as offline, as if the router and the point were not connected to the web. But it was a problem with the app, not with nest wifi. All good now, though. But thanks for sharing it in details!

Sounds like the same issue...
The Google Home app show all nest hubs and WiFi access points as OFFLINE and no internet available but the network continues to operate normally.

Hey, everyone.

This is a known bug in Home and we have internal teams working on a fix for this right now. As more information comes available, I'll share it here. But yes, this is something our teams are aware of and are handling now.

Thanks.

Hi, all.

We've found a possible workaround for those being affected by this. Go ahead and try toggling your IPv6 settings in Home. If you use IPv6, turn it off and back on. If you're not using IPv6, enable it temporarily and turn it back off. Here are the steps for doing so.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Wi-Fi and then Settings and then Advanced Networking.
  3. Turn on IPv6.

Once you've gone through those steps, check and see if the issue has cleared up for you.

Thanks.

Jeff,
Thanks,  but can you help with how you do this if the app cannot communicate with the Nest Router because it is OFFLINE and will not allow you to talk to the device?

Hey, gatkins.
Do you not even have the option in the Home app to toggle the IPv6 settings? You should be able to change that setting regardless of current connection status. Are you seeing it grayed out or something?

Hey, gatkins.

It's been a little while since I checked in. Are you still seeing the offline issue with your network? Where are things at for you right now?

Thanks.

Sounds great, gatkins.

Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else you might need?
