Nintendo switch online slow on Google nest wifi

Lostprincess

My Google nest wifi works great with all devices EXCEPT my Nintendo switch. It doesn’t matter where I place my Nintendo switch - it can be right next to a wifi point and it makes no difference. Prioritizing my switch device makes no difference.  Using a different router, I had no issues with wifi on my switch.   Does anyone have any ideas? It’s driving me insane.

Hi Lostprincess,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your internet speed with one of your devices. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

If you haven't yet, please try the steps on this article to isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Lostprincess,

It's me again. I wanted to check back in to see if you have other questions and concerns. Feel free to let me know if you do.

Thanks,

Edward

Issue started as soon as I connected my new google wifi (months ago now).

Trouble shooting steps include: moving the switch closer to the router with no obstructions.  Restarting the router, restarting the switch, connecting the switch to a guest wifi, prioritizing the switch in the google home app.

Hi Lostprincess,

Thanks for the response. Since the only device that's experiencing this is  your Nintendo Switch, is there any way we could try to change its DNS? If so, please try using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to the DNS 1 and DNS 2 fields.

Thanks,

Edward

Unfortunately this didn't help with speeds.  Its 28mbps compared to every other device which is on 97mbps

Hi everyone,

@EdwardT, thanks for the helpful responses.

@Lostprincess, thanks for the effort and sorry for the delay. We need to set a static IP address on your Home app for your Nintendo switch.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Open your Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wifi > Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
  4. Select DHCP IP reservations.
  5. Press the add button at the bottom-right corner.
  6. Choose your Nintendo Switch to assign a static IP.
  7. Tap the text field and enter a static IP address, then tap SAVE.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Mel

Hi! Can I ask what I am supposed to add to the text field? What digits or how many? Thank you

Hi Lostprincess,

Thanks for getting back to us. You can set any IP address for that device. You can also contact your ISP to confirm what IP address is best for your device.

Thanks,

Mel
