None of my devices will connect to mesh Wifi points, they only connect to the main Nest router.

  • I have a Nest Wifi router in my living on the first floor.
  • I have a Nest wifi point 2 rooms over on the first floor. And I have a second Nest wifi point on my second floor.
  • The Nest Wifi router and the two Wifi points all have unique names that I've given to them in the Google Home app.
  • In the Google Home app I can see that I have 20 active devices connected to my home Wifi.
  • Clicking through each device I can verify that 100% of them are connected to the Nest Wifi router, and none of them are connected to the mesh points. Not even the devices that are furthest from the Nest Wifi router, or the devices that sit mere inches from a mesh point.
  • Power cycling the devices and toggling their Wifi connections off and on have no effect. When they make the connection again they connect to the Nest Wifi router regardless of their proximity to it.
  • Using the Google Home app I can verify that the two Wifi points have a "Great connection" before and after using the "Test mesh" function. And I can confirm that both Wifi points are connected to the internet as they both respond to voice commands.

Is there a solution for this? At this point the devices are not functioning as advertised and I'm about ready to fight whatever fight I need to to get a full refund on all three devices.

Good afternoon - During my first set of Google Wi-Fi pucks (Gen 1), I had a similar issue when I moved into my two story house. What I found out is that the wireless protocols on some of my legacy devices weren't able to connect to the 2.4G network on the pucks, they connected only to the router puck (main).

I think you're doing everything right. I would just research the 802 bands and your device connectivity. If I had a few minutes where the family was gone, I would reset my network. (Reminder: that you can reuse the Network Name & Key). Swapping out the router puck for a satellite puck to confirm that it's a Google Wi-Fi issue would rule out a hardware issue. You may have already done that and not mentioned it.

Best of Luck.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, DanielLeSieur.

jkupczak, thanks for reaching out and for the details you shared. What devices are not connecting? Did you initially set them up or connect them to your main Nest Wi-Fi router? Try to turn off the main one and connect your devices to the Nest Wi-Fi points, then turn on the main one. Observe if they will return to the main Nest Wi-Fi router.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni

I solved my issue by factory resetting both of the mesh points and re-adding them to my Home.
