Hi everyone. I just replaced my internet from a 250mb service to a 900mb service
I have one wired PC using a cat5e cable. If I plug that said cable direct into new connection and then my PC I get the full 900mb
If I use the same cables via Google wifi (gen 1) I am maxing out at 500mb
Any thoughts on this ? Do I need to change anything?

Welcome to the club, you are not alone...

Oh shame, I was hoping for a quick fix.

Yes we all do, but it's been way over a year and Google is still selling half baked routers. So I hope they will fix it, but no indications that they will

i am quite new to this, is it worth me opening a support case with Google?

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with the speed of your Google Wifi. I'd love to know more about this. To isolate the issue, is this isolated to your computer or are you also seeing this speed on Wifi devices? If you haven't yet, please try the troubleshooting steps on this link.
Thanks,
Edward

"The internet speed from your provider may be currently slower than expected. Test your internet speeds. If the results are less than you expected, contact your ISP"
This step sums it up in a nutshell. The speeds are fine 900mb down and up, then I attach Google wifi and it drops to 500mb

Hi jimlad,
Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, where are you getting this message? Also, are you getting the same speeds on your Wi-Fi devices?
Thanks,
Edward

Just checked via fast.com and same distance from both routers (they are next to eachother). First original router: 880mb. Secondly the Google router: 170mb.
This isn't just a bit slower.

Hi Brianm,
Thanks for the response. To isolate the issue, to change DNS servers, and toggle cloud services. This can help in several ways, by connecting to a closer or more optimized DNS server. You can follow the steps below to toggle the cloud services:
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,

Hi,
Nope didn't solve anything. Still having max half the speed, but in most cases just a fraction.
So I'm very keen in other solutions.
I can only assume: 1, everybody has this problem and it is a faulty device(s) from day one or 2, only a portion has this problem and Google should replace those with problems.
Thanks, Brian

Hi Edward,
Yes I filled in the form. But this is really not okay.
I have 1.000 broadband (if I sit 1 meter away from the router I have 986 when checking via fast.com). My Google app says I get between 300 and 500. And when I sit at the same location (the main Google router is next to the one from my provider. And check the speed via fast.com I get only 440.
But if I go to an other Google point (10 meters away from the main point and a green connection in the Google app) I only get 60!!!
So I lose half of my speed by connection the Google WiFi router and at any other Google mesh point it drops to only 60 out of the available 1000. That is just 6%.
So I really need a solution because this is very very frustrating.
Thanks Brian

I've already tried this. But it's been years now and I have already purchased another mesh wifi. Google's systeem is just rubbish out of the box. No fix, no answers, no compression, no nothing.
It's just a shame.

I'm having the same issue. Google WiFi which is connected directly to my modem reports 520Mb download, 820Mb upload and yet my Linksys router (bridge mode) which is connected to the Google WiFi via ethernet is getting 900Mb both download and upload. Which mesh system have you swapped too please?
07-30-2023 04:25 AM
I have a 1.000mb connection, got less then half with Google connected. And at the 2nd mesh point less than 100mb, all at close range.
I went for the Orbi Pro WiFi 6 Tri-band Router. Not too friendly on the software side, but when it works, it works. There are probably better/less expensive alternatives, but I was so fed up with the Google system, that I just wanted something that worked.
Google is very good on software, but we shouldn't buy their hardware... Ever.

You can still make it up, by buying back/compensating for the faulty devices.
