Wife notes problems with lag and freeze on zoom calls despite great download/ upload speeds from Google mesh.  Rarely is someone else on video call when this occurs, so I don't think device priority will help.  Should ipv6 be on?  Is there some way to optimize on the HP laptop she uses?  We have also seen this on my Macbook and iPad, so not just her computer, but she notes biggest problems. So is there anything else we can do to improve mesh function with these devices on Zoom calls?

Hi, Bruce Baker 4565.

Sorry for the late response on this, but I wanted to check in to see if I could offer some help on this. I'm sorry for the speed issues you're seeing on video calling. I imagine that's quite frustrating.

The first thing I would check is to see if you have any preferred activities set up. Preferred activities can prioritize network traffic, but in some rare cases, they can slow down other types of traffic. If you have some in place, try disabling them to see how it impacts your network. The process is below.

Turn on or off preferred activities

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi  and then Settings  and then Preferred activities.
  3. Check each activity type you would like your network to prioritize.

Preferred activities remain prioritized for your network until you turn them off.

If this still doesn't work for you, please let me know and we can look into other options. Thanks.

Hi Jeff.  I have a similar issue and have followed your advice. I already have video conferencing selected but my zoom and teams videos still has a massive lag or becomes unstable during the call. The same device doesnt have a problem when I hot spot using my phone.

Does the google mesh need to be updated at all or would a newer generation fix the solution? I hope not as my mesh system is only 18 months old.

Thanks

Chris

Hey there, CBD78.

There's no need to upgrade to a newer generation device. Each iteration of the hardware would be plenty powerful to handle your needs, provided you are getting enough bandwidth from your ISP.

Now this might sound odd, but it's worth a shot. Try turning the preferred activity for video calling off. In fact, don't have any preferred activities set to see if that changes anything for you. It's not all that common, but in some instances some people are finding better performance if no preferred activities are set. Hopefully this helps you out. If you are still having issues, please come back and let me know.

Thanks.
