Problems with google mesh wifi speeds after increase at modem

bezeemom

We have Spectrum that was originally 100mbps  with 1 google router with 2 nodes/points. They are about 32 feet and 20 feet line of sight from the modem/router.  With this set up I got 98mbps at a wireless connected desktop downstairs from the modem. When we upgraded to 300mbps we also got a new modem which shows 300+ at its' location. I expected to see an increase in the downstairs wireless connected computer but nothing changed. The wireless antenna is capable of handling a much faster speed.  We then checked to see how many devices were on the "system"  and did move some of the smart home items to the guest network. We still didn't see any change on the wireless connected computer. I would logically expect to see some improvement, but then we all know tech isn't always logical. Can someone help? We have attempted to contact customer service 3 times, all three time we were cut off thru no fault/strength of our signal.  We have NOT received a call back.

When Spectrum increased the speed of my service, I had to reboot both the modem and router to see the full speed. Perhaps it's the same for your situation?

Rebooted several times, nothing changed

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Set your modem/router combo to bridge mode.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6.
  5. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hey everyone,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks,
Mel

did all of that to no avail. I have no problem getting the 300 + speed near the modem or on wired connections. The whole problem comes from the google WiFi mesh. It should handle it!
