Using the Google Home App, I select the device, and scroll to the bottom, and there is an option "Check device speed" . What exactly is this testing ? Is it testing the speed from the device to the 1st connected Nest Pro Router, or is it the speed over the Ethernet back-haul connection back to the 'Main' Nest Pro Router that is physically connected to the Google Fiber coming into the home ? Thank you

Hello @rpguy
I can't answer this definitively, but as far as I can tell, the "Test device speed" just tests the speed between that client device and the access point it's currently connected to.
When it's connected to a secondary, running a mesh test will fill in a number (of a sort) for how fast that secondary can talk to the primary. I have some issues with where this number comes from, since it's a stress test of all secondaries at the same time, but it's not useless. When the secondary is connected back via Ethernet, this number will reflect how fast it can talk to the primary via Ethernet rather than via the 802.11s mesh (that shares the 5GHz radio for Google/Nest WiFi or the 6GHz radio for Nest WiFi Pro), but, again, the test is hitting all of the secondaries at the same time. Probably more than you wanted to know 🙂

Hello everyone,
I appreciate you sharing this helpful information, @MichaelP.
@rpguy, thanks for reaching out. The network check that you're asking about tests the connection speed between your Wifi point and the wireless device connected to that point. Please note that this test is only for devices connected wirelessly to your network; it can’t be run for devices connected via Ethernet cable and that the results measure your devices’ connection speed to the Wifi point they are connected to, not their connection to the internet itself.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.
Best,
Lovely
